  1. 11. Uterus transplantation: an experimental study in the rat model

    Author : Shamima N Akhi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; infertility; microsurgery; pregnancy; rat; transplantation; uterus;

    Abstract : One of the last frontiers to conquer in infertility research is to find a treatment for uterine factor infertility, which affects around 2500 Swedish women. These women cannot become pregnant or carry a pregnancy due to absence of uterus or presence of non-functioning uterus. READ MORE

  2. 12. A Study on Endoscopic Live Donor Nephrectomy and Elevated Intraperitoneal Pressure

    Author : Pernilla Lindström; Bengt Rippe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Candesartan; cardiac output; glomerular filtration rate; hand-assisted laparoscopy; hand-assisted retroperitoneoscopy; kidney; living donor nephrectomy; morbidity; pneumoperitoneum; rat; renal transplantation; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Abstract : Live donor nephrectomy (LDN) is a unique surgical challenge where surgery is performed on healthy individuals. It is of great importance to keep the morbidity of donors as low as possible, as well as harvesting a kidney in optimal condition. Lowering morbidity is the motive for introducing the endoscopic technique in LDN. READ MORE

  3. 13. In vitro and in vivo studies of tissue engineering in reconstructive plastic surgery

    Author : Fredrik R.M. Huss; Gunnar Kratz; Elof Eriksson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Tissue engineering; plastic surgery; guided tissue regeneration; Plastic surgery; Plastikkirurgi; Plastikkirurgi;

    Abstract : To correct, improve, and maintain tissues, and their functions, are common denominators in tissue engineering and reconstructive plastic surgery. This can be achieved by using autolo-gous tissues as in flaps or transplants. However, often autologous tissue is not useable. READ MORE

  4. 14. Intestinal preservation for transplantation: translational approaches

    Author : John M. Söfteland; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intestinal transplantation; intestinal preservation; apoptosis; tight junction; luminal preservation;

    Abstract : Background: Intestinal preservation injury (IPI) may result in various degrees of mucosal damage, which may later favor bacterial translocation, post-reperfusion syndrome, and upregulation of alloreactivity. Experimental evidence suggests that combining vascular perfusion and cold storage with luminal interventions using polyethylene glycol (PEG) solutions may mitigate the mucosal damage and extend the safe storage time. 5. 15. Studies of Experimental Bacterial Translocation

    Author : Anders Stenbäck; Cecilia Johnsson; Staffan Meurling; Bengt Jeppsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Intestinal barrier; short bowel syndrome; small bowel transplantation; mesenteric lymph nodes; gadolinium chloride; T cell inactivation; glutamine; phosphatidylcholine; rat; Thiry-Vella loop; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : One of the main obstacles to maintaining patients with short bowel syndrome on parenteral nutrition, or successfully transplanting these patients with a small bowel graft, is the many severe infections that occur. Evidence is accumulating that translocating bacteria from the patient’s bowel causes a significant part of these infections. READ MORE
