  1. 6. Degradation of wood polysaccharides by fungal glycoside hydrolases

    Author : Torny Eriksson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Penicillium brasilianum; ethanol; cellulose; wood polysaccharides; Man5A hemicellulase; cellulase; endoglucanase; cellobiohydrolase; Cel7B; Cel7A; Trichoderma reesei; glycoside hydrolase; Plant biochemistry; Växtbiokemi;

    Abstract : The enzymatic degradation of wood polysaccharides such as cellulose and hemicellulose is an important process in nature. In addition, cellulases and hemicellulases can be used in industrial applications. Fuel ethanol can potentially be produced from wood by enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose followed by yeast fermentation of the formed sugars. READ MORE

  2. 7. The kinetics of cellulose enzymatic hydrolysis : Implications of the synergism between enzymes

    Author : Priit Väljamäe; Jan-Christer Janson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Acetobacter; Cellobiohydrolase; Cellobiose; Cellulase; Cellulose; Diffusion; Endoglucanase; Hydrolysis; Inhibition; Kinetics; Model; Product; Substrate; Surface; Synergism; Trichoderma reesei; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : The hydrolysis kinetics of bacterial cellulose and its derivatives by Trichoderma reesei cellulases was studied. The cellulose surface erosion model was introduced to explain the gradual and strong retardation of the rate of enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose. READ MORE

  3. 8. Hydrophobic Fusion Tags: Implications For Bioseparation and Cellular Expression

    Author : Anna Collén; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein production; secretion; aqueous two-phase systems; Trichoderma reesei; endoglucanase; Biochemistry; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism;

    Abstract : The studies in this thesis have shown that the partitioning of endoglucanase I (EGI, Cel7B) from T. reesei could be significantly improved by relatively minor genetic engineering. By adding short peptides composed of tryptophan and proline residues to EGI, extreme partitioning could be obtained. READ MORE

  4. 9. The relation between the supramolecular structure of cellulose and its hydrolysability

    Author : Ausra Peciulyte; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cellulose I; SHG; Cellulases; CARS; Imaging; Trichoderma reesei; MPEF; CP MAS 13C-NMR; Secretomics;

    Abstract : The liberation of fermentable sugars from cellulosic biomass during enzymatic hydrolysis is often incomplete. One of the factors limiting the efficiency of enzymatic hydrolysis is the structural properties of cellulose. READ MORE

  5. 10. Functional studies and engineering of family 1 carbohydrate-binding modules

    Author : Janne Lehtiö; KTH; []
    Keywords : Cellulose-binding; carbohydrate-binding modules; phage display; bacterial surface display; combinatorial protein library; protein engineering; Trichoderma reesei; Staphylococcus carnosus;

    Abstract : The family 1 cellulose-binding modules (CBM1) form a groupof small, stable carbohydrate-binding proteins. These modulesare essential for fungal cellulosedegradation. This thesisdescribes both functional studies of the CBM1s as well asprotein engineering of the modules for several objectives. READ MORE
