1. Polyhydroxyl and Polyphosphorylcholine functionalized Silica for Hydrophilic interaction liquid Chromatography- Synthesis, characterization and application
Abstract : This thesis focuses on the development of new stationary phases for use in hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography using TRIS-based and phosphorylcholine typed monomers and porous silica particles as starting substrates. In this thesis, several ways of polymerizing highly hydrophilic monomers onto pore surfaces of silica supports are described, based on several “grafting from” schemes. READ MORE

2. Synthesis of aromatic bis- and tris(amino acids) and chiral dendrimers
Abstract : A number of protected aromatic bis- and tris(amino acids) have been synthesised by catalytic asymmetric hydrogenation of the corresponding didehydroamino acid derivatives. The didehydroamino acid derivatives were prepared either by a Heck coupling of a 2-amidoacrylate with an aryl dihalide, or by Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons olefination of aromatic aldehydes with phosphonylglycine reagents. 3. Elucidating Chemical and Electrochemical Side-Reaction Mechanisms in Li-ion Batteries
Abstract : Lithium-ion batteries constitute a leading technology that plays a major role in the transition towards sustainable transportation and power generation. The stability of modern batteries relies on a passivation layer formed on the negative electrode known as the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI). READ MORE

4. Controlling function by structure-intermolecular interactions and crystal engineering with N-donor ligands
Abstract : In the solid state regime, crystal engineering based on non-covalent synthesis requires an intuition about the intermolecular forces that can dictate the molecular architecture. Hydrogen bonds have become an instrumental tool in the self assembly and supramolecular chemistry. READ MORE

5. Overcoming the Mass Transport Limitations of Dye-Sensitised Solar Cells : Towards highly efficient and robust alternative redox mediator electrolyte DSSCs
Abstract : Dye-sensitised solar cells (DSSCs) have been subject to decadelong research interest, and may have some potential niche market applications. Recently, major advances in power conversion efficiencies have been achieved following the transition to cobalt polypyridine based redox mediators. READ MORE
