  2. 2. Air Pollution Dependency on Climate Variability and Source Region : Past, Current and Future Air Pollution Scenarios over Europe

    Author : Camilla Andersson; Hans-Christen Hansson; Christer Johansson; Joakim Langner; David Simpson; Peter Builtjes; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Acidification; Air Pollution; Climate Change; Europe; Numerical Model; Emission; Eutrophication; Key region; Nitrogen Dioxide; Particulate Matter; PM; Source region; Surface Ozone; Tropospheric Ozone; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : The main objectives of this thesis were to investigate the dependency of European air pollution on climate variability and emission source region. Calculations with a chemistry transport model (CTM) were conducted to investigate the influence of climate variability. READ MORE

  3. 3. Impacts of urbanisation on birds : Disentangling the effects of multiple pollutants on avian behaviour and physiology

    Author : Ann-Kathrin Ziegler; Evolutionär ekologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; artificial light at night; ALAN; antioxidants; great tit; light pollution; LPS; multi-stressor; noise pollution; tropospheric ozone; urbanisation; zebra finch;

    Abstract : Anthropogenic pollution is a pervasive feature of urbanisation, reaching into ecosystems worldwide and posing novel challenges to wildlife. Not surprisingly, differences in behaviour, and physiology, have been found between urban and rural populations. READ MORE

  4. 4. The Tropospheric Aerosol - Measurements and Modelling. Case studies in Tanzania and Southeast Asia and development of models for size resolved aerosol simulations on the regional scale

    Author : Cecilia Bennet; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Aerosol; PM; Source assignment; Chemical Transport Modelling; Model inter-comparison; Sea salt emissions and Aerosol dynamics;

    Abstract : The tropospheric aerosol is a complex constituent of the atmosphere that has impacts on health and the climate. This thesis presents five different studies from Tanzania, Southeast Asia and Europe dealing with urban measurements of particle mass and elemental composition, regional scale modelling of ozone and particle mass of inorganic aerosols and development of modules for sea salt emissions and size resolved aerosol particles with aerosol dynamical mechanisms implemented in a regional scale chemistry and transport model (CTM). 5. 5. Lidar Measurements of Polar Stratospheric Clouds in the Arctic

    Author : Peggy Achtert; Farahnaz Khosrawi; Jörg Gumbel; Richard Collins; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Abstract : Polar Stratospheric Clouds (PSCs) play a key role for ozone depletion in the polar stratosphere. Its magnitude depends on the type of PSC and its lifetime and extent. This thesis presents PSC observations conducted with the Esrange lidar and the space-borne CALIPSO lidar.PSCs are separated into three types according to their optical properties. READ MORE
