  1. 1. Hormonal regulation of liver and tumor growth

    Author : Ville Wallenius; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Liver; cytokine; interleukin-6; tumor necrosis factor; primary liver growth promoter; cyproterone acetate; nafenopin; hepatocyte growth factor; HGF receptor; tumor; sarcoma; N-terminal; truncated;

    Abstract : The aims of this thesis were to investigate the regulatory functions of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-a (TNF-a) on liver growth, and the importance of hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) and the HGF receptor (Met) for growth of mesenchyme-derived tumors. The studies on different types of liver growth, measured as weight, DNA and protein content, and DNA synthesis, were performed on mice lacking the IL-6 or the TNF receptor-1 gene back-crossed to the C57bl/6 strain. 2. 2. Quantitative analysis of tumor growth and response to therapy

    Author : Esmaeil Mehrara; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : tumor; growth; response; therapy; modeling; clinical;

    Abstract : Modeling the natural growth of tumors is of value for evaluation of tumor progression and optimization of treatment strategies. However, modeling tumor growth based on clinical data is hampered by the limited data available, since therapy is in general initiated as early as possible after diagnosis. READ MORE

  3. 3. Tumor Stroma in Anaplastic Thyroid Carcinoma : Interstitial Collagen and Tumor Interstitial Fluid Pressure

    Author : Ellen Lammerts; Lucio Nitsch; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Collagen I synthesis; Fibrosis; Tumor - stroma interactions; PDGF; TGF-β; Inhibitor; Cell cycle; Tumor growth; Hyaluronan; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Biochemistry; medicinsk biokemi;

    Abstract : Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) is an aggressive malignancy in man with stromal fibrosis as one of the main features. Carcinoma cells synthesized no or little collagen I protein. READ MORE

  4. 4. Tumor angiogenesis. Regulation of mural cell recruitment and endothelial sprouting

    Author : Alexandra Abramsson; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : Angiogenesis; tumor; retina; PDGF; VEGF; platelet-derived growth factor; guidance; vascular endothelial growth factor.;

    Abstract : The formation of new blood vessels is an inherent part of many physiological and pathological processes. Currently, there is a strong hope pathological situations like stroke, diabetic retinopathy and cancer may be affected by pharmacological regulators of blood vessel formation. READ MORE

  5. 5. Basement membrane collagens in pancreatic cancer : novel stroma-derived tumor markers and regulators of cancer cell growth

    Author : Daniel Öhlund; Malin Sund; Peter Naredi; Matthias Löhr; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Pancreatic cancer; tumor marker; basement membrane; type IV collagen; type XVIII collagen; matrix metalloproteinase; integrin; autocrine loop; tumor stroma; kirurgi; Surgery;

    Abstract : Background: Among the common malignancies, pancreatic cancer has the shortest long-term survival. The aggressive, rapid, and infiltrative growth pattern of pancreatic cancer, together with the lack of specific symptoms, often leads to late diagnosis. READ MORE
