21. NO, Immunosuppression and Tumor Immmunotherapy
Abstract : This study aims at clarifying the role of NO in the immunosuppression induced by in vivo tumor growth and by tumor immunotherapy, and determining whether the inhibition of NO production can be used as an adjuvant in tumor immunotherapy. We have shown previously that tumor cells, glioma (N32) and colon carcinoma (H1D2), when genetically engineered to express such immune stimulatory cytokines as IFN-g and IL-18, induce strong anti-tumor immune response, in immunized tumor-free rats, whereas only a limited therapeutic effect is achieved in rats in which a tumor has already become established. 22. Targeting the prostate tumor microenvironment and vasculature : the role of castration, tumor-associated macrophages and pigment epithelium-derived factor
Abstract : BACKGROUND: Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among Swedish men. For patients with metastatic prostate cancer the standard therapy is castration, a treatment that initially provides symptomatic relief but unfortunately is not curative. New therapeutic targets for advanced prostate cancer are therefore needed. READ MORE

23. Tumor instructed normal tissue : studies of potential extratumoral biomarkers and therapeutic targets in prostate cancer
Abstract : Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in Sweden and but luckily the majority of the patients will carry on their life without any consequences from the disease. Unfortunately, some will develop aggressive tumors and eventually die. READ MORE

24. Regulation of Platelet-Derived Growth Factor Receptor Signaling and its Targeting in Cancer Therapy
Abstract : Overactivity of platelet-derived growth factor receptor (PDGFR) is a frequent event in many types of solid tumors. Therefore, it is of great importance to uncover the mechanisms that regulate PDGF/PDGFR signalling, to develop efficient inhibitors targeting this pathway. READ MORE

25. Hypoxia-Inducible Factors in Tumor Cell Differentiation and Tumor Vascularization
Abstract : Mammalian cells, including tumor cells, adapt to hypoxia via stabilization of two transcription factors - Hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1alpha and HIF-2alpha. Among other consequences, hypoxia is a main driving force behind angiogenesis. READ MORE
