  1. 1. Mathematical analysis and approximation of a multiscale elliptic-parabolic system

    Author : Omar Richardson; Adrian Muntean; Alfred Schmidt; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Two-scale modelling; two-scale Galerkin approximation; inverse Robin estimates; elliptic-parabolic system; a priori analysis; a posteriori error estimators; Matematik; Mathematics;

    Abstract : We study a two-scale coupled system consisting of a macroscopic elliptic equation and a microscopic parabolic equation. This system models the interplay between a gas and liquid close to equilibrium within a porous medium with distributed microstructures. We use formal homogenization arguments to derive the target system. READ MORE

  2. 2. Two-scale stochastic modelling and analysis of leakage through metal-to-metal seals

    Author : Francesc Perez Rafols; Giuseppe Carbone; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Machine Elements; Maskinelement;

    Abstract : A seal is a commonly used machine element whose function is to preventthe flow of a fluid from a high to a low pressure region. Metal-to-metalseals, in particular, are used whenever extreme conditions prevent theuse of less expensive rubber seals. READ MORE

  3. 3. Multiscale Modelling of Reinforced Concrete

    Author : Adam Sciegaj; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; multiscale; bond-slip; cracking; computational homogenisation; reinforced concrete;

    Abstract : Since concrete cracks at relatively low tensile stresses, the durability of reinforced concrete structures is highly influenced by its brittle nature. Cracks open up for ingress of harmful substances, e.g. chlorides, which in turn cause corrosion of the reinforcement. READ MORE

  4. 4. Multiscale Modelling of Reinforced Concrete Structures

    Author : Adam Sciegaj; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cracking; reinforced concrete; computational homogenisation; bond-slip; multiscale;

    Abstract : Concrete cracks at relatively low tensile stresses; cracks open up for ingress of harmful substances, negatively affecting the durability of reinforced concrete structures. Crack widths are thus limited in the design codes, and accurate predictions are needed, especially for large reinforced concrete structures such as bridges or nuclear reactor containment buildings. 5. 5. Modelling and numerical analysis of leakage through metal-to-metal seals

    Author : Francesc Pérez Ràfols; Vladislav Yastrebov; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Maskinelement; Machine Elements;

    Abstract : Metal-to-metal seals are critical components as their failure can lead to leakage of hazardous fluids to the environment or to fatal failure of the systems they operate on. Most systems are subjected to increasingly more demanding conditions and deeper knowledge about how different parameters affect the leakage is necessary to design seals with the desired performance.
