  1. 11. Teaching and Learning in Type 2 Diabetes : The Importance of Self-Perceived Roles in Disease Management

    Author : Anikó Vég; Anna Sarkadi; Urban Rosenqvist; Berit Lundman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Health services research; Typ 2 diabetes; HbA 1c ; Self-perception; Disease Management; Experience-based group education; Reflective learning; Hälso- och sjukvårdsforskning;

    Abstract : The major part of care in type 2 diabetes is in the hands of the patient so the focus of educational interventions should be on the person behind the disease. An experience-based group education programme that actively promotes participants’ reflection and understanding has been designed and implemented in cooperation with the Swedish Pharmacy. READ MORE

  2. 12. Pharmacometrics Modelling in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus : Implications on Study Design and Diabetes Disease Progression

    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacometric; type 2 diabetes mellitus; impaired glucose tolerance; prediabetes; anti-diabetes drug development; insulin; glucose; natural diabetes disease progression; lifestyle intervention; short-term provocation; long-term effect; glucose homeostasis; glucose and insulin regulation; weight; dropout; Pharmaceutical Science; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Endokrinologi och Diabetologi; Endocrinology and Diabetology;

    Abstract : Pharmacometric modelling is widely used in many aspects related to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), for instance in the anti-diabetes drug development, and in quantifying the disease progression of T2DM.The aim of this thesis were to improve the design of early phase anti-diabetes drug development studies with the focus on the power to identify mechanism of drug action (MoA), and to characterize and quantify the progression from prediabetes to overt diabetes, both the natural progression and the progression with diet and exercise interventions, using pharmacometrics modelling. 3. 13. Search for MODY and Type 2 diabetes genes

    Author : Markku Lehto; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 2 diabetes; mutation; MODY; mitochondrial DNA; MIDD; insulin deficiency; hepatocyte nuclear factor; Gestational diabetes; glucokinase; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : Diabetes is a heterogeneous disease influenced by both environmental and genetic factors. Maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) is considered as a subform of Type 2 diabetes, which is inherited in an autosomal dominant fashion and expressed at childhood or early adult life. Abstract : Abstract Type 2 diabetes mellitus is among the fastest growing diseases in the world. The reported prevalence of T2D appears to differ among various ethnic groups. READ MORE

  5. 15. Mitochondrial and chromosomal genomics in type 2 diabetes

    Author : Avinash Abhyankar; Genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adaptive evolution; nuclear-mitochondrial interaction; linkage analysis; QTL; phylogenetic analysis; congenic; type 2 diabetes; GK rat;

    Abstract : Understanding the mechanisms of complex polygenic diseases like type 2 diabetes (T2D) is as complex as their nature. Cellular processes involved in glucose homeostasis need high and reliable energy supply. Mitochondria are the major energy producers in mammalian cells. READ MORE
