  1. 1. Evolution of continental crust in the Proterozoic : growth and reworking in orogenic systems

    Author : Andreas Petersson; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; crustal reworking; Proterozoic; O-isotopes; Lu–Hf; U–Pb; zircon; Crustal growth;

    Abstract : To understand the growth of continental crust, the balance between juvenile mantle derived extraction, infracrustal reworking and crustal recycling, needs to be estimated. Since the beginning of the century, the use of coupled in situ zircon U–Pb, Lu–Hf and O isotope analyses as a tool to address these questions have increased exponentially. READ MORE

  2. 2. Precambrian Crustal Evolution of the Rehoboth Province, Southern Africa

    Author : Valby van Schijndel; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Rehoboth Province; Rehoboth Basement Inlier; Kaaien Terrane; Dwyka Diamictite; U–Pb; Sm–Nd; Lu–Hf; Ar–Ar Geochronology; Oxygen isotopes; Zircon; Baddeleyite;

    Abstract : This thesis uses U-Pb, Sm-Nd Lu-Hf, Ar-Ar and Oxygen isotope data on well-documented rock samples, to investigate crustal evolution of the Precambrian Rehoboth Province of Southern Africa. This province is defined by its smooth magnetic character, reflecting deep magnetic basement in contrast to the adjoining mobile belts and the Kaapvaal Craton. READ MORE

  3. 3. Crustal evolution of the Arabian–Nubian Shield : Insights from zircon geochronology and Nd–Hf–O isotopes

    Author : Fitsum Girum Yeshanew; Victoria Pease; Martin J. Whitehouse; Robert J. Stern; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Gondwana; Arabian–Nubian Shield; Azania; zircon U–Pb–O–Hf isotopes; Nd isotopes; Cambrian Sandstones; juvenile; pre–Neoproterozoic; reworking; Geology; geologi;

    Abstract : The Arabian–Nubian Shield (ANS) represents a major site of juvenile Neoproterozoic crustal addition on Earth and documents Neoproterozoic tectonics bracketed by two supercontinent cycles, namely the fragmentation of Rodinia and the amalgamation of Gondwana. There is general consensus that the ANS formed by juvenile magmatic arc accretion and subsequent shield–wide post–tectonic magmatism. READ MORE

  4. 4. Pressure, temperature and time constraints on tectonic models for southwestern Sweden

    Author : Eric Austin Hegardt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sveconorwegian; Gothian; Hallandian; U‐Pb zircon ion probe dating; Sm-Nd garnet dating; thermobarometry; continental subduction; Eastern Segment; Median Segment; Western Segment;

    Abstract : In this work, a number of key localities have been investigated in detail in order to provide precise constraints on models for the tectonic evolution of southern Sweden. The new data presented in this thesis show that there are large differences in terms of pre-Sveconorwegian tectonic evolution between the Eastern and Median-Western Segments situated on either side of the Mylonite Zone, a major shear zone as well as a structural and lithological boundary. 5. 5. Agpaitic Rocks of the Norra Kärr Alkaline Complex: Chemistry, Origin, and Age of Eudialyte-hosted Zirconium and Rare-earth Element Ore

    Author : Axel S.L. Sjöqvist; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Norra Kärr alkaline complex; agpaitic rocks; eudialyte; rare-earth elements; geochronology; radiogenic isotope geochemistry;

    Abstract : Agpaites are peralkaline nepheline syenites that are denominated by rock-forming complex silicate minerals such as eudialyte. The exotic mineralogy and chemistry of these rocks are not only interesting for research, but globally these rocks also have potential as polymetallic resources of elements such as zirconium, niobium, rare-earth elements, zinc, and uranium.
