  1. 1. Novel functions of cardiovascular P2 receptors

    Author : Anna-Karin Wihlborg; Kardiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet; mRNA; EDHF; UTP; UDP; ADP; ATP; P2 receptor; contraction; dilatation; endothelial cells; Heart; VSMC;

    Abstract : The aim of the thesis was to examine the expression and function of the extracellular nucleotide P2 receptors in the cardiovascular system. In the cardiovascular system nucleotides are released during shear stress, hypoxia, ischemia, from endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, aggregating platelets, inflammatory cells and erythrocytes. 2. 2. Studies of nucleotide receptors-induced calcium response in glomerular mesangial cells and afferent arterioles

    Author : Antonio M. Gutiérrez; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology and anatomy; mesangial cells; nucleotide receptors; purinoceptors; desensitization; afferent arterioles; ATP; UTP; adenosine; protein phosphatases; calcium; Fysiologi och anatomi; Physiology and pharmacology; Fysiologi och farmakologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Abstract : It is known that intracellular calcium concentration ([Ca2+]i) changes in rat glomerular mesangial cells (GMC) and rabbit afferent arterioles (AA) in response to extracellular nucleotides. We studied the nucleotide-induced calcium response in cultured GMC and AA. READ MORE

  3. 3. Diabetic Vascular Complications & Inflammation - role of NFAT and TNFalpha

    Author : Jenny Öhman; Kardiovaskulär forskning - immunitet och ateroskleros; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; vascular; hyperglycemia; osteopontin; NFAT; diabetes; retinopathy; TNF; UTP;

    Abstract : Vascular complications of diabetes account for the majority of morbidity and mortality among diabetic patients. Large clinical trials have identified hyperglycemia as a risk factor in the development of diabetic vascular complications. READ MORE

  5. 5. Ion transport in exocrine glands with reference to cystic fibrosis

    Author : Ailing Zhang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; ion transport; cystic fibrosis; submandibular gland; airway submucosal gland; X-ray microanalysis; cytosolic Ca2 concentration; immunocytochemistry; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Human Anatomy; anatomi;

    Abstract : Aspects of ion transport in rat submandibular gland acinar cells at the subcellular level, and the regulation of chloride secretion and calcium mobilization in cultured pig tracheal gland acinar cells were studied with reference to the disease cystic fibrosis.In adult rat submandibular gland acinar cells, both cholinergic and α-adrenergic stimulation induced efflux of K+ and of C1-, but the response was generally less with α-adrenergic stimulation.
