  1. 1. Detection and analysis of genetic alterations in normal skin and skin tumours

    Author : Åsa Sivertsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : single cell; DNA sequencing; p53; mutation; UV; BCC; pyrosequencing; malignant melanoma; N-ras;

    Abstract : The investigation of genetic alterations in cancer-relatedgenes is useful for research, prognostic and therapeuticpurposes. However, the genetic heterogeneity that often occursduring tumour progression can make correct analysischallenging. READ MORE

  2. 2. p53 Alterations in Human Skin : A Molecular Study Based on Morphology

    Author : Ling Gao; Christer Bush Bush; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; p53; skin; mutation; carcinogenesis; microdissection; UV; Basal cell cancer BCC ; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Pathology; patologi;

    Abstract : Mutation of the p53 gene appears to be an early event in skin cancer development. The present study is based on morphology and represents a cellular and genetic investigation of p53 alterations in normal human skin and basal cell cancer. READ MORE

  3. 3. Metabolic Engineering of Recombinant Protein Production by Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Author : Zihe Liu; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; recombinant protein production; genome sequencing; DNA microarray; insulin precursor; growth rate; UV mutation; yeast; anaerobic electron acceptor; secretory pathway; unfolded protein response; metabolic engineering; systems biology; α-amylase;

    Abstract : The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae is a widely used cell factory for the production of fuels, chemicals, and it also provides a platform for the production of many heterologous proteins of medical or industrial interest. In this thesis, random and rational approaches, such as vector design, host engineering, fermentation analysis, UV Mutation, coupled with high-throughput systems biology techniques (including whole genomic sequencing, microarray analysis and flux analysis) and integrated analysis (Reporter feature technique), were employed to engineer cellular properties more effectively and purposefully to construct cell factories for protein production. 4. 4. UV-induced DNA damage in humans

    Author : Vladimir J Bykov; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : 32P-HPLC; photoproducts; DNA repair; solar simulated radiation; erythema; sunscreens; humans;

    Abstract : Ultraviolet radiation is considered to be the most harmful part of solar energy affecting man. The depletion of the ozone layer around the Earth increases the total exposure to UV-light. The incidence of skin cancer in man has been shown to be associated with exposure to solar radiation, especially to UV-light. READ MORE

  5. 5. Role of MTH1 and MYH proteins in genotoxic effects of radiation

    Author : Sara Shakeri Manesh; Siamak Haghdoost; William F. Morgan; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MTH1; MYH; gamma radiation; UV radiation; oxidative stress; low dose rate ionizing radiation; molekylärgenetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Abstract : Humans are constantly exposed to different types of radiations. It has been suggested that low dose and low dose rate of γ-radiation as well as ultra violet A (UVA) induce oxidative stress in cells that may promote mutations. READ MORE
