1. Molecular responses of plants to solar UV-B and UV-A radiation
Abstract : Plant responses to solar ultraviolet radiation (UV, 280-400 nm) were assessed at different molecular levels using Betula pendula Roth (silver birch) and Arabidopsis thaliana (Arabidopsis) as model species in outdoor experiments to assess the possibly interacting roles of the UV-B and UV-A wavebands in acclimation to sunlight. Solar UV-B (280-315 nm) and UV-A (315-400 nm) irradiance was attenuated with plastic films. READ MORE

2. On the ecophysiology of Baltic cyanobacteria focusing on bottom-up factors
Abstract : Cyanobacterial blooms in the Baltic Sea are dominated by diazotrophic cyanobacteria, i.e. Aphanizomenon sp. and Nodularia spumigena. READ MORE

3. Modeling Quantum Cascade Lasers : The Challenge of Infra-Red Devices
Abstract : We live in a time of rapid scientific and technological advancement. People liv- ing 100 years ago could never dream of inventions like those having completely changed our way of life, and our perception of the world; computers, mobile phones, the Internet, space travel, unraveling the mysteries of the early universe and distant galaxies, and our insight into the microscopic world of quantum phe- nomena. 4. Temperature effects on UV-B induced DNA damage and repair in plants and a lichen
Abstract : All living organisms have DNA and since DNA is essential to life it must be repaired when damaged. UV radiation is one of the major DNA damaging agents, which photosynthetic organisms cannot avoid. READ MORE
