  1. 1. Heart failure in primary care with special emphasis on costs and benefits of a disease management programme

    Author : Björn Agvall; Urban Alehagen; Ulf Dahlström; Mats Foldevi; Lars Weinehall; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background and aim. Heart failure (HF) is a common condition associated with poor quality of life (QoL), high morbidity and mortality and is frequently occurring in primary health care (PHC). It involves a substantial economic burden on the health care expenditure. READ MORE

  2. 2. Between the Probe and the Pump : An experimental study on cardiac performance analysis based on Echocardiography, tissue and laser Doppler

    Author : Laila Hübbert; Birgitta Janerot-Sjöberg; Ulf Dahlström; Sven-Erik Ricksten; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Echocardiography is an ultrasound-based bedside, non-invasive and easily available cardiac diagnostic technique visualising the heart’s morphology and function. Quantification of cardiac wall motion can be measured with the tissue Doppler Imaging (TDI) modality which provides in humans a high diagnostic capacity to differentiate healthy from diseased myocardium with reduced function. 3. 3. Health‐related quality of life, depression, sleep and breathing disorders in the elderly : With focus on those with impaired systolic function/heart failure

    Author : Peter Johansson; Ulf Dahlström; Anders Broström; Urban Alehagen; Peter Währborg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Elderly; cardiac function; chronic heart failure; health-related quality of life; depressive symptoms; prognosis; sleep disturbances; sleep disordered breathing; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to describe the prevalence of depressive symptoms, sleep disordered breathing (SDB) and sleep complaints, as well as to investigate the prognostic value of health-related quality of life (Hr-QoL) and depressive symptoms on mortality in an elderly community living population with a focus on those with impaired systolic function/heart failure (HF). Descriptive, prognostic and explorative study designs were used to examine if a single question about global perceived health (GPH) is associated with the domains of Hr-QoL as assessed by the SF-36 (I), as well as to evaluate whether GPH provided prognostic information concerning cardiovascular mortality (II). 4. 4. How to create and analyze a Heart Failure Registry with emphasis on Anemia and Quality of Life

    Author : Åsa Jonsson; Ulf Dahlström; Magnus Edner; Lars Lund; Bertil lindahl; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Heart failure; reduced ejection fraction; mid-‐range ejection fraction; preserved ejection fraction; anemia; Health-‐related quality of life; observational study; outcomes;

    Abstract : Background and aimsHeart failure (HF) is a major cause of serious morbidity and death in the population and one of the leading medical causes of hospitalization among people older than 60 years. The aim of this thesis was to describe how to create and how to analyze a Heart Failure Registry with emphasis on Anemia and Quality of Life. READ MORE

  5. 5. Mathematical Learning Disability : Cognitive Conditions, Development and Predictions

    Author : Rickard Östergren; Ulf Träff; Joakim Samuelsson; Örjan Dahlström; Åke Olofsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Mathematical learning disability; dyscalculia; mathematical cognition; number sense; Matematiska inlärningssvårigheter; dyskalkyli; matematisk kognition; antalsuppfattning;

    Abstract : The purpose of the present thesis was to test and contrast hypotheses about the cognitive conditions that support the development of mathematical learning disability (MLD). Following hypotheses were tested in the thesis: a) domain general deficit, the deficit is primarily located in the domain general systems such as the working memory, b) number sense deficit, the deficit is located in the innate approximate number system (ANS), c) numerosity coding deficit, the deficit is located to a exact number representation system, d) access deficit, the deficit is in the mapping between symbols and the innate number representational system (e.
