  1. 1. Mutation Analysis and Hypercholesterolemia: Studies in FH patients and in healthy middle-aged men with high, low, or increasing cholesterol levels during a six-year follow-up (the CRISS study)

    Author : Ulf Ekström; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Klinisk kemi; Clinical chemistry; LDL receptor; Mutation; risk factor; FH; familial hypercholesterolemia;

    Abstract : Our aims were to characterize familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) in a Swedish FH population and to further elucidate the clinical expression and treatment response in relation to genotype. Secondly, we wanted to identify gene variants, which may have impact on cholesterol levels in apparently healthy subjects. READ MORE

  2. 2. Birefringences and X-ray absorption from relativistic and nonrelativistic quantum chemical methods

    Author : Ulf Ekström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Application of quantum chemical methods for the prediction and interpretation of optical and X-ray experiments have been performed. X-ray absorption and X-ray photo-electron spectroscopy of pentacene in the gas phase has been studied using the static exchange approximation. READ MORE

  3. 3. Time-dependent molecular properties in the optical and x-ray regions

    Author : Ulf Ekström; Patrick Norman; Knut Faegri; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quantum chemistry; molecular physics; x-ray spectroscopy; relativity; Computational physics; Beräkningsfysik;

    Abstract : Time-dependent molecular properties are important for the experimental characterization of molecular materials. We show how these properties can be calculated, for optical and x-ray frequencies, using novel quantum chemical methods. READ MORE

  4. 4. Oxidation and corrosion fatigue aspects of cast exhaust manifolds

    Author : Madeleine Ekström; Stefan Jonsson; Ulf Olofsson; Babette Tonn; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cast exhaust manifolds; high-temperature corrosion; high-temperature low-cycle fatigue; high-temperature corrosion fatigue; ductile cast irons; cast stainless steel; Materials Science and Engineering; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : Emission regulations for heavy-duty diesel engines are becoming increasingly restrictive to limit the environmental impacts of exhaust gases and particles. Increasing the specific power output of diesel engines would improve fuel efficiency and greatly reduce emissions, but these changes could lead to increased exhaust gas temperature, increasing demands on the exhaust manifold material. 5. 5. Steroid-Metabolizing Cytochrome P450 (CYP) Enzymes in the Maintenance of Cholesterol and Sex Hormone Levels

    Author : Hanna Pettersson; Maria Norlin; Kjell Wikvall; Paolo Parini; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CYP27A1; CYP7B1; cytochrome P450; estrogen receptor; androgen receptor; cholesterol; sex hormone; hydroxylation; steroid metabolism; regulation of steroid levels; Pharmaceutical biochemistry; Farmaceutisk biokemi; Farmaceutisk biokemi; Pharmaceutical Biochemistry;

    Abstract : The enzymes CYP27A1 and CYP7B1 are widely expressed in various human tissues and perform catalytic reactions in cholesterol homeostasis and endocrine signaling. We have investigated the metabolism of a synthetic oxysterol. READ MORE
