  1. 1. Metal-assisted chemical etching for nanofabrication of hard X-ray zone plates

    Author : Rabia Akan; Ulrich Vogt; Muhammet Toprak; Carmen Vogt; Lucia Romano; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; metal-assisted chemical etching; zone plate; high-aspect ratio; silicon; nanostructures; Material and Nano Physics; Material- och nanofysik; Optik och fotonik; Optics and Photonics;

    Abstract : Hard X-ray scanning microscopes, or nanoprobes, make it possible to image samples and probe their chemical, elemental and structural properties at nanoscale resolution. This is enabled by the use of nanofocusing optics. Commonly used optics in nanoprobes for high resolution X-ray experiments are zone plates. READ MORE

  2. 2. Biological Laboratory X-Ray Microscopy

    Author : Mikael Kördel; Hans Hertz; Ulrich Vogt; Jonas A. Sellberg; Rajmund Mokso; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; x-ray microscopy; laboratory x-ray microscopy; water window; biological; cell imaging; virus; Biological and Biomedical Physics; Biologisk och biomedicinsk fysik; Optik och fotonik; Optics and Photonics;

    Abstract : Soft x-ray microscopy in the water window (? ≈ 2.3 − 4.3 nm) is a powerful technique for high-resolution biological imaging. The strong natural contrast between carbon-based structures and water allows visualization of hydrated and unstained samples, while providing enough transmission through up to ∼ 10 μm of organic matter. 3. 3. Laboratory x-ray fluorescence tomography

    Author : Jakob C. Larsson; Hans Hertz; Anna Burvall; Ulrich Vogt; Norbert Pelc; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; x-ray; fluorescence; x-ray fluorescence; nanoparticle; xrf; xfct; tomography; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : X-ray fluorescence (XRF) tomography is an emerging bio-imaging modality with potential for high-resolution molecular imaging in 3D. In this technique the fluorescence signal from targeted nanoparticles (NPs) is measured, providing information about the spatial distribution and concentration of the NPs inside the object. 4. 4. Phase-Contrast X-Ray Carbon Dioxide Angiography

    Author : Ulf Lundström; Hans Hertz; Anna Burvall; Ulrich Vogt; Franz Pfeiffer; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Phase-contrast x-ray imaging is an emerging technology, which allows for imaging of smaller features than conventional absorption-based x-ray imaging, with lower radiation dose. Instead of the attenuation that is normally used in x-ray imaging, it utilizes the phase shift introduced by an object to the transmitted x-rays. READ MORE

  5. 5. Zone Plates for Hard X-Ray Free-Electron Lasers

    Author : Daniel Nilsson; Ulrich Vogt; Thomas Tschentscher; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; X-ray optics; Zone plates; XFEL; x-rays; free-electron laser; heat transfer;

    Abstract : Hard x-ray free-electron lasers are novel sources of coherent x-rays with unprecedented brightness and very short pulses. The radiation from these sources enables a wide range of new experiments that were not possible with previous x-ray sources. Many of these experiments require the possibility to focus the intense x-ray beam onto small samples. READ MORE
