  1. 1. Molecular studies of hypothalamic food intake regulating systems and central myelination in two anorectic mouse models

University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Molecular Medicine and Surgery

Author : Ulrika Bergström; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2016]

Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to increase the understanding of the hypothalamic mechanisms that are vital for food intake regulation, in particular as it relates to anorexia, and the molecular mechanisms underlying myelination and nodal/paranodal domain organization. The majority of the thesis concerns the anorectic phenotype of two mouse models for which we have found both great similarities and differences pointing to different mechanisms generating similar symptoms and neuropeptidergic alterations. Abstract : The DDT metabolite 3-methylsulfonyl-DDE (3-MeSO2-DDE) is bioactivated by cytochrome P450 11B1 (CYP11B1) in the adrenal cortex of mice and forms irreversibly bound protein adducts, reduces glucocorticoid secretion, and induces cell death selectively in cortisol-producing adrenocortical cells. 3-MeSO2-DDE has therefore been proposed as a lead compound for an improved adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) therapy. Abstract : Urinary bladder cancer is a heterogeneous disease appearing in different forms, e.g. non-muscle invasive and muscle invasive. For all variants, the expression of proteins is interesting to analyze for diagnostic, predictive, prognostic and drug targeting purposes, since it reflects the altered gene expression causing the cancer.
