  1. 1. Early Rostrocaudal Patterning of the CNS

    Author : Ulrika Nordström; Thomas Edlund; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; CNS development; neural patterning; neural specification; Wnt; FGF; RA; Isthmic organizer; motor neurons; rostrocaudal patterning.; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi;

    Abstract : The transformation of an initially uniform population of epiblast cells into an intricately complex central nervous system (CNS) is one of the most fascinating processes during embryonic development. Presumptive neural cells are initially specified as cells of forebrain character. READ MORE

  2. 2. Physical activity, bone density, and fragility fractures in women

    Author : Undis Englund; Ulrika Pettersson Kymmer; Peter Nordström; Gustaf Bucht; Karl Obrant; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; physical activity; bone density; neuromuscular function; fragility fractures; women; Geriatrics and medical gerontology; Geriatrik och medicinsk gerontologi; Geriatrics; geriatrik;

    Abstract : Scandinavia has among the highest incidence of fragility fractures in the world. The reasons for this are unknown, but might involve differences in genetic and/or environmental factors, such as sunlight exposure and levels of physical activity. READ MORE

  3. 3. Using patient-derived cell models to investigate the role of misfolded SOD1 in ALS

    Author : Elin Forsgren; Jonathan Gilthorpe; Stefan Marklund; Peter Andersen; Thomas Brännström; Ulrika Nordström; Séverine Boillée; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : ALS; SOD1; patient-derived models; induced pluripotent stem cells; motor neurons; astrocytes; 20S proteasome low oxygen tension; misfolded SOD1; Neurology; neurologi;

    Abstract : Protein misfolding and aggregation underlie several neurodegenerative proteinopathies including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) was the first gene found to be associated with familial ALS. READ MORE

  4. 4. SOD1 misfolding and aggregation in ALS : in the light of conformation-specific antibodies

    Author : Manuela Lehmann; Jonathan D. Gilthorpe; Stefan L. Marklund; Thomas Brännström; Ulrika Nordström; Elizabeth Fisher; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; ALS; antibodies; SOD1; disordered SOD1; patient-derived models; low oxygen tension; Immunotherapy;

    Abstract : Mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene are linked to the progressive neurodegenerative disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). ALS-associated mutations affect the stability of the SOD1 protein and promote its unfolding. As a consequence, disordered SOD1 species can misfold and accumulate into insoluble aggregates. READ MORE

  5. 5. Benefits or Work? Social Programs and Labor Supply
