  1. 21. Ultrasound evaluation of atherosclerosis and other cardiovascular sources of cerebral embolism

    Author : Robert Wetterholm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : stroke; atherosclerosis; aorta; echocardiography; ultrasound; IMT; MES; WHHL;

    Abstract : The search for embolic sources has high priority in patients presenting with suspected cerebral embolism. Non-invasive cardiovascular ultrasound is frequently used to reveal the presence of carotid stenosis and cardiac disorders with embolic potential. READ MORE

  2. 22. Pregnancy Ultrasound Detecting Soft Markers – the Challenge of Communicating Risk Figures

    Author : Annika Åhman; Anna Sarkadi; Christine Rubertsson; Peter Lindgren; Marie Berg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pregnancy; Ultrasound; Soft markers; Prenatal; Screening; Fathers; Informed decision making; Decision aid.; Obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on expectant parents’ experiences and needs when soft makers are detected at mid-trimester ultrasound, resulting in an unexpected assessment of risk for fetal anomalies. The thesis also describes the prevalence of ultrasonographic fetal soft markers and the incidence of Down syndrome in a low-risk population of 10,535 pregnant women with a total of 10,710 fetuses, as well as the risk of invasive prenatal diagnostics in conjunction with the detection of soft markers. 3. 23. Central venous catheterisation - clinical studies on mechanical complications in the ultrasound-guided era

    Author : Maria Adrian; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; central venous catheterisation; ultrasound; mechanical complication; subclavian vein; Internal jugular vein; femoral vein; guidewire;

    Abstract : Central venous catheterisation is one of the most common invasive procedures performed on patients in secondary care. Unfortunately the catheterisation procedure is associated with mechanical complications that both can be life-threatening and may force postponement of life-saving treatments such as surgery and chemotherapy. 4. 24. Magnetomotive ultrasound for nanomedicine : a mechanistic approach to detection, evaluation and safety assessment

    Author : Sandra Sjöstrand; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Magnetomotive; ultrasound; finite element analysis; cancer diagnosis; HT-29; Caco-2;

    Abstract : Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, but reliable diagnosis and staging can contribute to optimal treatment planning, and is a crucial factor in reducing mortality and maintaining quality of life. Soft tissue mechanical properties are promising indicators of cancer that can be assessed non-invasively using functional imaging. READ MORE

  5. 25. Ultrasound assessment of carotid atherosclerosis focusing on plaque characteristics and changes over time

    Author : Ulrica Prahl; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Ultrasound; Carotid artery; Women; Plaques; Echogenicity; Atherosclerosis;

    Abstract : In a clinical perspective better methods to identify subjects at increased cardiovascular risk are needed. Atherosclerotic plaques of the carotid arteries with low echogenicity have been related to future clinical events. READ MORE
