  1. 11. Infrastructure investment planning under uncertainty

    Author : Niclas A. Krüger; Lars Hultkrantz; Farideh Ramjerdi; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Real options; Wavelets; Risk; Uncertainty; Investments; Growth; Benefit-cost analysis; Infrastructure; Transportation; Traffic safety; Fractional Brownian motion; Incomplete contracts; Monte-Carlo simulation; Long memory; Economics; Nationalekonomi; Economics; Nationalekonomi;

    Abstract : This dissertation is concerned with the planning processes in transportation and infrastructure investments and the aim is to improve risk assessment, risk valuation and risk management. Many of the results presented in this thesis are also applicable to a wider range of questions... READ MORE

  2. 12. Uncertainty, variability and environmental risk analysis

    Author : Monika Filipsson; Tomas Öberg; Bo Bergbäck; Lars Rosén; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : Contaminated land; exposure assessment; exposure factors; risk analysis; risk perception; uncertainty; variability; probabilistic risk assessment; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Miljövetenskap; Environmental Science;

    Abstract : The negative effects of hazardous substances and possible measures that can be taken are evaluated in the environmental risk analysis process, consisting of risk assessment, risk communication and risk management. Uncertainty due to lack of knowledge and natural variability are always present in this process. READ MORE

  3. 13. Comparing Procurement Methods in Road Construction Projects : Influence on Uncertainty, Interaction and Knowledge

    Author : Robert Lundström; Martin Johanson; Amjad Hadjikhani; Jaana Tähtinen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Procurement methods; uncertainty; interaction; knowledge; construction; network; project; Business Studies; Företagsekonomi;

    Abstract : The construction sector is often considered to show a number of limitations regarding efficiency and effectiveness, conclusions normally drawn irrespective of project procurement method used, and despite the common assumption that differences among approaches exist regarding these aspects. The study investigates differences and similarities among procurement methods using a longitudinal multi-case study based on two comparatively large infrastructure projects: a traditional so-called design-bid-build project and an unconventional so-called design-build-maintain project. 4. 14. Reliable Uncertainty Quantification in Statistical Learning

    Author : David Widmann; Fredrik Lindsten; Dave Zachariah; Erik Sjöblom; Dino Sejdinovic; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Reliability; Calibration; Uncertainty; Probabilistic Model; Prediction; Julia; Machine learning; Maskininlärning;

    Abstract : Mathematical models are powerful yet simplified abstractions used to study, explain, and predict the behavior of systems of interest. This thesis is concerned with their latter application as predictive models. READ MORE

  5. 15. Virus Fate and Transport in Groundwater : Organic matter, uncertainty, and cold climate

    Author : Jean-Marc Mayotte; Keven Bishop; Stephan Köhler; Fritjof Fagerlund; Sven Halldin; Constantinos V. Chrysikopoulos; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; managed aquifer recharge; organic matter; virus; numerical modeling; uncertainty; Hydrology; Hydrologi; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : Water managers must balance the need for clean and safe drinking water with ever-increasing amounts of waste-water. A technique for treating and storing surface water called “managed aquifer recharge” (MAR) is frequently used to help maintain this balance. READ MORE
