  1. 1. Hydrographic and morphologic processes at Falsterbo peninsula - Present conditions and future scenarios

    Author : Sten Blomgren; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydrogeology; Wave climate; Unconfined aquifer; Shore protection; Sea-level rise; Numerical modeling; Kriging; Groins; Flooding; Greenhouse effect; Digital elevation model; Beach erosion; Coastal morphology; geographical and geological engineering; Hydrogeologi; teknisk geologi; teknisk geografi; Geophysics; physical oceanography; meteorology; Geofysik; fysisk oceanografi; meteorologi;

    Abstract : Falsterbo Peninsula in the south-west corner of Sweden is low-lying and built up of unconsolidated sand. Vulnerability to high water levels and wave action is of concern for the 10,000 residents of the peninsula, especially in consideration of global warming as enhanced inundation and coastal erosion problems may ensue. 2. 2. Mechanical properties of excavated sulfur rich soil stabilized with cement - A laboratory and field experiment

    Author : Alaleh Ziagharib; Christian Maurice; Josef Macsik; Qi Jia; Jan Laue; Bo Vesterberg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Sulfur-rich soil; Mixing; Sampling; Unconfined compressive strength; stabilization; Porosity; Water content; Consistency limits; Geoteknik; Soil Mechanics;

    Abstract : Sulfide soils are silty soils, often found in saturated conditions, under the groundwater level. Characteristics of these soils, including particle size distribution and consistency limits along with chemical composition and environmental properties, cause excavation to be necessary for construction purposes. 3. 3. Experimental and Numerical Investigations of Confluent Round Jets

    Author : Klas Svensson; Bahram Moshfegh; Patrik Rohdin; Bengt Sundén; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Confluent jets; Multiple jet array; Jet interactions; Confluent Core Zone CCZ ; Particle Image Velocimetry PIV ; Laser Doppler Velocimetry LDA ; Computational Fluid Dynamics CFD ; Response Surface Methodology;

    Abstract : Unconfined multiple interacting confluent round jets are interesting from a purely scientific point of view, as interaction between neighboring jets brings additional complexity to the flow field. Unconfined confluent round jets also exist in various engineering applications, such as ventilation supply devices, sewage disposal systems, combustion burners, chemical mixing or chimney stacks. 4. 4. Soil Modification by adding small amounts of binders : A laboratory study

    Author : Wathiq Jasim Al-Jabban; Jan Laue; Sven Knutsson; Nadhir Al-Ansari; Paolo Simonini; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Abstract : Soil stabilization through addition of a hydraulic binder is a method frequently used to modify and improve engineering properties of soft soils. Additives like cement and lime are typically used as stabilizers. More recently, industrial by-products, such as fly ashes, cement kiln dust, blast furnace slags and other slags have been used. 5. 5. Deformation Behavior of Lime/Cement Column Stabilized Clay

    Author : Sadek Baker; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Deep stabilization of clay with lime/cement columns has lately become one of the most frequent methods for improvement of soft clays. The method is cost effective, as it results in a drastic reduction of settlement. The theories used for design were originally developed for lime columns. READ MORE
