1. Children with congenital unilateral sensorineural hearing loss : etiology, newborn diagnostics, and hearing aid amplification
Abstract : Congenital unilateral sensorineural hearing loss (uSNHL) comprises about 25% of the sensorineural hearing losses (SNHLs) found through newborn hearing screening (NHS) programs. Even if children with congenital uSNHL struggle in school and everyday listening situations, studies on etiology, hearing aid (HA) outcomes and intervention are few, so it is still unknown when and how intervention is optimally provided. 2. Bilateral hearing aids for bilaterally hearing-impaired persons : always the best choice?
Abstract : The most logical solution if a person has a hearing impairment on both ears, seems to be bilateral bearing aid amplification in both ears. Numerous studies have shown the advantages of this fitting strategy. However, there were always some individuals not benefiting from bilateral hearing aids; until recently a neglected group of persons. READ MORE

3. Bone anchored hearing aids 'BAHAs' in children
Abstract : BACKGROUND: The technique for applying bone-anchored hearing aids (BAHAs) by the use of osseointegration is today widely established for both adults and children. The BAHA concept is suitable for patients with recurrent ear infections or car malformations who cannot use conventional hearing aids, which are placed altogether or partially in the ear canal. 4. Hearing in children with cleft palate
Abstract : Objective: The overall aim of this thesis was to collect longitudinal information about hearing thresholds and complications due to otitis media with effusion (OME) in children with cleft palate. Since OME is highly prevalent in children with cleft palate, many authors have hypothesized that the hearing loss associated to OME contributes to the delayed development of early speech and language often seen in these children. 5. Growing up with one ear : central auditory structure and function in unilateral ear canal atresia
Abstract : The following thesis aims to give more insight into the functional and structural response of the central auditory system to congenital unilateral ear canal atresia (UCA) and the accompanying asymmetric hearing with conductive hearing loss on the atretic side. There is clear evidence that unilateral hearing loss, including UCA, has a negative impact on sound localization ability and perception of speech in noise. READ MORE
