  2. 2. Dizziness and Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo among older adults - health-related quality of life and associated factors

    Author : Ellen Lindell; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dizziness; Vertigo; Unsteadiness; Falls; Older adults; Walking speed; Health-related quality of life; Sense of coherence;

    Abstract : Dizziness is a common complaint reported by more than 30% of persons over 70 years of age and accounts for 2% of all visits in healthcare annually. Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is a common and treatable cause of dizziness. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies of Transient and Pulsating flows with application to Hydropower

    Author : Joel Sundström; Michel Cervantes; Mehdi Seddighi; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Turbulent flows; Pipe flow; Unsteadiness; Friction modeling; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Abstract : The rotational motion of a hydraulic turbine runner makes pulsating flows ubiquitous in different locations of the machine. The cyclic loading thus induced may generate large pressure forces acting periodically on both stationary and rotating parts. READ MORE

  4. 4. Blood Flow variations in Large Arteries due to non-Newtonian rheology

    Author : Stevin van Wyk; Laszlo Fuchs; Staffan Lundström; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Blood; Rheology; Viscosity; non-Newtonian; CFD; Bifurcations; Unsteadiness; Wall Shear Stress; Atherosclerosis;

    Abstract : The blood is a complex fluid that contains, in addition to water, cells, macro-molecules and a large number of smaller molecules. The physical properties of the blood are therefore the result of non-linear interactions of its constituents, which are influenced by the local flow field conditions. READ MORE

  5. 5. Effects of boundary conditions and unsteadiness on draft tube flow

    Author : Michel Cervantes; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Abstract : The present research focuses on flow properties of the elbow draft tube. This element has a major function in low head turbines, since up to half of the losses may arise there at part load. The use of computational fluid dynamic (CFD) to redisign a draft tube necessitates detailed knowledged of the boundary conditions. READ MORE
