  1. 1. Cerebral ischemia studied with positron emission tomography and microdialysis

    Author : Peter Frykholm; Peter Kirkpatrick; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; Cerebral ischemia; penumbra; positron emission tomography; microdialysis; middle cerebral artery occlusion; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; Neurosurgery; neurokirurgi;

    Abstract : Stroke is the third leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the industrialized world. Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), the least common form of stroke, is one of the most demanding diseases treated in neurointensive care units. Cerebral ischemia may develop rapidly, and has a major influence on outcome. READ MORE

  2. 2. Local Effects On Icing Forecasts for Wind Power In Cold Climate

    Author : Erik Janzon; Anna Rutgersson; Metodija Shapkalijevski; Heiner Körnich; Johan Arnqvist; Alfredo Peña; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Meteorologi; Meteorology;

    Abstract : Understanding the risk of atmospheric icing on wind turbines is crucial for the operation of wind farms in cold climate regions. Processes leading to atmospheric icing in the planetary boundary layer are subject to interactions with the land surface--the details of which are largely unknown in current numerical weather prediction models and must be parameterized. 3. 3. Computational studies of core level XPS satellites in transition metal systems : Department of Quantum Chemistry, Uppsala University

    Author : Johnny Bustad; Högskolan i Gävle; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; adsorbates; shake-up; surface science; XPS; XES; INDO; model systems; Chemical physics; Kemisk fysik;

    Abstract : Upon core ionization of a free molecule or a molecule adsorbed on a metal surface, higher binding energy satellites are observed, so called "shake-up" satellites, which can be viewed as valence excitations simultaneously to the creation of the core hole. In this thesis, theoretical studies of such core level XPS satellites in transition metal systems are presented, as well as cluster calculations of XES spectra, using the quantum mechanical INDO method. 4. 4. Walking the Plank of the Entrepreneurial University : The little spin-out that could?

    Author : Nina Fowler; David Sköld; Marcus Lindahl; Malin Brännback; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : University spinouts; research; academic capitalism; entrepreneurship; commercialisation; social forces; Engineering Science with specialization in industrial engineering and management; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot industriell teknik;

    Abstract : Creating spinout companies (USOs) from university research is one focus of innovation policy. The phenomenon features in two main fields of enquiry: academic entrepreneurship studies, and literature on academic capitalism and the entrepreneurial university. READ MORE
