1. DNA Binding of Metal Complexes. A Spectroscopic Study of Trigonal Ru(II)phenanthroline Complexes and Uranyl(VI) Ion with Respect to Specific Interactions with DNA
Abstract : The interaction of metal complexes with nucleic acids has attracted attention owing to their potentials as optical probes, probes of chirality, and for use as artificial restriction enzymes. To understand the underlying mechanisms in these contexts we studied the binding to DNA of the enantiomers of two chiral ruthenium(II) metal complexes ([Ru(phen)3]2+ and [Ru(phen)2]2+DPPZ) phen=1,10-phenanthroline, DPPZ=dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine, and of the linear uranium(VI) complex, uranyl ([UO2]2+), using linear dichroism, circular dichroism and luminescence, as well as nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. 2. Theoretical Reflections of Solvation in Polar Media
Abstract : Using experiments it is rather easy to measure things on the macroscopic length scale, while it is much harder to measure something in the microscopic world like molecular structure. The opposite is true in theoretical chemistry. READ MORE

3. Stability of UO2 in systems containing radiolytic oxidants : The role of uranyl peroxide species
Abstract : Nuclear power constitutes a major pillar on the global energy market, and it will most probably increase in importance as fossil fuels are gradually phased out. The main problem connected to nuclear power is the generation of highly radiotoxic spent nuclear fuel (95% UO2 and 5% radioactive fission products and heavier actinides). READ MORE

4. Theoretical Actinide Chemistry – Methods and Models
Abstract : The chemistry of actinides in aqueous solution is important, and it is essential to build adequate conceptual models and develop methods applicable for actinide systems. The complex electronic structure makes benchmarking necessary. READ MORE

5. Precipitation and fixation of uranium in reduced environment : simulation in a continuous culture of sulfate-reducing bacteria
Abstract : The precipitation and fixation of the uranyl ion (U022+), in a reduced environment, has been investigated by means of continuous cultivation of sulphate-reducing bacteria. The continuous culture sustem made it possible to study the chemical reactions under physico-chemical conditions (e.g. READ MORE
