  1. 1. Uridine, 4-thiouridine and isomaltitol in an asthma-like model : Anti-inflammatory and modulating effects

    Author : Chamilly Evaldsson; Srinivas Uppugunduri; Margareta Linden; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Uridine; asthma; 4-thiouridine; isomaltitol; isomalt; inflammation; eosinophilia; Sephadex; animal model; rat; Pharmaceutical pharmacology; Farmaceutisk farmakologi; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Lung diseases; Lungsjukdomar;

    Abstract : In chronic inflammatory diseases like asthma or rheumatoid arthritis, erroneous and exaggerated accumulation of leukocytes in a tissue inadvertently causes the body harm. Several efficient anti-inflammatory drugs exist, for example corticosteroids and cyclo-oxygenase inhibitors. READ MORE

  2. 2. Formation and function of wobble uridine modifications in transfer RNA of Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Author : Bo Huang; Anders Byström; Monica Rydén-Aulin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Transfer RNA; Modified nucleoside; Elongator complex; Wobble uridine; Decoding; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Transfer RNAs (tRNAs) act as adaptor molecules in decoding messenger RNA into protein. Frequently found in tRNAs are different modified nucleosides, which are derivatives of the four normal nucleosides, adenosine (A), guanosine (G), cytidine (C), and uridine (U). READ MORE

  3. 3. Influence of wobble uridine modifications on eukaryotic translation

    Author : Hasan Tükenmez; Anders Byström; Tracy Nissan; Sebastian Leidel; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Elongator is a conserved six subunit protein (Elp1p-Elp6p) complex that is required for the formation of ncm5 and mcm5 side chains at wobble uridines in transfer RNAs (tRNAs). Moreover, loss-of-function mutations in any gene encoding an Elongator subunit results in translational defects and a multitude of phenotypic effects. READ MORE

  4. 4. Functional aspects of wobble uridine modifications in yeast tRNA

    Author : Anders Esberg; Anders Byström; James T. Anderson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; Transfer RNA; Modified nucleosides; Elongator complex; Translation; Kluyveromyces lactis γ-toxin; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : Transfer RNAs (tRNA) function as adaptor molecules in the translation of mRNA into protein. These adaptor molecules require modifications of a subset of their nucleosides for optimal function. The most frequently modified nucleoside in tRNA is position 34 (wobble position), and especially uridines present at this position. READ MORE

  5. 5. Systemic and local regulation of experimental arthritis by IFN-α, dendritic cells and uridine

    Author : Sudeep Chenna Narendra; Mattias Magnusson; Srinivas Uppugunduri; Alf Kastbom; Natacha Bessis; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we have studied the immunological processes of joint inflammation that may be targets for future treatment of patients with arthritis. We focus on the immune-modulating properties of interferon-α (IFN-α) and uridine in experimental arthritis. READ MORE
