  1. 1. Project Evaluation in Development Cooperation : A Meta-Evaluative Case Study in Tanzania

    Author : Mikiko Cars; Jan-Ingvar Löfstedt; Roy Carr-Hill; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; meta-evaluation; social programme evaluation theories and methodology; international development cooperation; development evaluation; community based approach; actor oriented approach; participatory monitoring and evaluation; responsive-constructivist evaluation; Tanzania; International education; Internationell pedagogik;

    Abstract : The research reported here is a meta-evaluative case study of project evaluation in the context of Official Development Cooperation (ODC) in the education sector in Tanzania, where the particular focus is on capturing the relative values attached to evaluation by various stakeholder groups.Perspectives from the constructivist paradigm are adopted, implying relativist ontology, subjectivist epistemology, and naturalistic interpretive methodology. 2. 2. Using Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamic Principles to Evaluate Individualisation of Antibiotic Dosing – Emphasis on Cefuroxime

    Author : Anders Viberg; Marie Sandström; Otto Cars; Mats Karlsson; Hartmut Derendorf; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacokinetics Pharmacotherapy; Cefuroxime; pharmacokinetics; pharmacodynamics; dosing individualisation; NONMEM; Farmakokinetik Farmakoterapi; PHARMACY; FARMACI;

    Abstract : Cefuroxime is a renally eliminated antibiotic used against a variety of different bacterial infections. The pharmacokinetics (PK) for cefuroxime was studied in 97 hospitalized patients using population analysis. To be able to measure cefuroxime in human serum a new sensitive analytical method was developed using mass spectrometry detection. READ MORE

  3. 3. Pharmacometric Models for Antibacterial Agents to Improve Dosing Strategies

    Author : Elisabet I Nielsen; Lena E Friberg; Otto Cars; Mats O Karlsson; Marie Sandström; Alan Forrest; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Antibiotics are among the most commonly prescribed drugs. Although the majority of these drugs were developed several decades ago, optimal dosage (dose, dosing interval and treatment duration) have still not been well defined. READ MORE

  4. 4. Pharmacodynamic effects of antibiotics : studies on bacterial morphology, initial killing, postantibiotic effect and effecitive regrowth time

    Author : Håkan Hanberger; Otto Cars; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Pharmacodynamics of antibiotics deals with time course of drug activity and mechanisms of action of drugs on bacteria. In this thesis pharmacodynamic parameters have been studied after brief exposure of gram-positive bacteria to daptomycin, imipenem or vancomycin and after short exposure of gram-negative bacteria to amikacin, ampicillin, aztreonam, cefepime, cefotaxime, ceftazidime, ceftriaxone, cefuroxime, imipenem, mecillinal,11, or piperacillin. 5. 5. Relation Between Drug Exposure and Selection of Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria

    Author : Sara K. Olofsson; Otto Cars; Dan I. Andersson; Diarmaid Hughes; George G. Zhanel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Microbiology; Pharmacokinetics; Pharmacodynamics; Antibiotic resistance; Selection; Transmission; Mathematical model; Escherichia coli; Mikrobiologi;

    Abstract : The worldwide increase in antibiotic resistance is a concern for public health. When the appropriate antibiotic dosage is determined, the priorities are efficacy and toxicity. The aim of this thesis was to gain knowledge about the most efficient dosing regimens in order to minimize the emergence and selection of antibiotic-resistant mutants. READ MORE
