  1. 1. Nano-Engineered Contrast Agents : Toward Multimodal Imaging and Acoustophoresis

    Author : Satya V.V.N. Kothapalli; Dmitry Grishenkov; Lars-Åke Brodin; Andreas Michael Versluis; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Nano-engineered microbubbles; SPION nanoparticles; Acoustic characterization of MBs; Fracturing mechanism of MBs; Opto-acoustics; Acoustophoresis; Physics; Fysik; Järnvägsgruppen - Ljud och vibrationer; Järnvägsgruppen - Ljud och vibrationer; Teknik och hälsa; Technology and Health;

    Abstract : Diagnostic ultrasound (US) is safer, quicker and cheaper than other diagnostic imaging modalities. Over the past two decades, the applications of US imaging has been widened due to the development of injectable, compressible and encapsulated microbubbles (MBs) that provide an opportunity to improve conventional echocardiographic imaging, blood flow assessment and molecular imaging. 2. 2. Configurational Thermodynamics of the CeO2-Gd2O3 System : A Combined DFT, Cluster Expansion and Monte Carlo Approach to Bulk and Interfaces

    Author : Pjotrs A. Žguns; Natalia V. Skorodumova; Andrei V. Ruban; María Verónica Ganduglia-Pirovano; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we study the configurational thermodynamics of Ce1-xGdxO2-x/2 x ≤ 1 or CGO. We apply a combined Density Functional Theory (DFT), cluster expansion and Monte Carlo (MC) approach in which the configurational energy of CGO is described by means of the Ising-type Hamiltonian. 3. 3. Assessment of Robustness in Railway Traffic Timetables

    Author : Emma V. Andersson; Jan Lundgren; Anders Peterson; Johanna Törnquist Krasemann; Thorsten Büker; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : A tendency seen for the last decades in many European railway networks is a growing demand for capacity. An increased number of operating trains has led to a delay sensitive system where it is hard to recover from delays, where even relatively small delays are easily propagating to other traffic. 4. 4. Reassembling the Environmental Archives of the Cold War : Perspectives from the Russian North

    Author : Dmitry V. Arzyutov; Peder Roberts; Per Högselius; Julia Lajus; Bathsheba Demuth; KTH; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Environmental Archive; Russian Arctic; Encounters; Cold War; Indigenous and Academic Ways of Knowing; Miljöarkiv; ryska Arktis; möten; det kalla kriget; ursprungliga och akademiska kunskapssystem.; Historiska studier av teknik; vetenskap och miljö; History of Science; Technology and Environment;

    Abstract : To what extent the environmental history of the Arctic can move beyond thedivide between Indigenous peoples and newcomers or vernacular and academicways of knowing? The present dissertation answers this question by developing thenotion of an environmental archive. Such an archive does not have particular referenceto a given place but rather it refers to the complex network that marks the relationsbetween paper documents and human and non-human agencies as they are able towork together and stabilise the conceptualisation of a variety of environmentalobjects. 5. 5. Flutter in sectored turbine vanes

    Author : Olga V. Chernysheva; KTH; []
    Keywords : turbomachinery; aerodynamics; unsteady CFD; design; flutter;

    Abstract : In order to eliminate or reduce vibration problems inturbomachines without a high increase in the complexity of thevibratory behavior, the adjacent airfoils around the wheel areoften mechanically connected together with lacing wires, tip orpart-span shrouds in a number of identical sectors. Although anaerodynamic stabilizing effect of tying airfoils together ingroups on the whole cascade is indicated by numerical andexperimental studies, for some operating conditions suchsectored vane cascade can still remain unstable.
