  1. 6. Natural products from Bolivian plants and other sources

    Author : Marcelo Bascope; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Växtbiokemi; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; Plant biochemistry; Bolivian plants; ESIMS oxygen adducts; Myrothecium roridum; Silphion persicum; Cyathea boliviana; Rheedia acuminata; Heliconia episcopalis; Iryanthera juruensis; Aniba canelilla; Natural products;

    Abstract : The present research was focused on the phytochemical research of Bolivian plants; a) two medicinal ones Aniba canelilla and Iryanthera juruensis, both plants showed to have compounds with biological activity in different fields. Even though Aniba canelilla was studied before, new compounds were identified in this investigation. READ MORE

  2. 7. DYNAMIC MODELLING OF BIOGEOCHEMICAL PROCESSES IN FOREST ECOSYSTEMS

    Author : Salim Belyazid; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Naturvetenskap; marklära; Silviculture; forestry; forestry technology; Skogsvetenskap; skogsbruk; skogsteknik; Natural science; Lantbrukshydrologi; Soil Science; agricultural hydrology; Växtekologi; Forest Soil Acidification; Plant ecology; Plant biochemistry; Forest Growth; Vegetation biodiversity; Carbon Sequestration; Nitrogen Leaching; Miljökemi; Dynamic Modelling; Växtbiokemi; Environmental chemistry;

    Abstract : Forests in Sweden are undergoing rapid and considerable changes regarding both management methods and environmental conditions. To understand the effects of these changes and to be able to predict impending changes in forest ecosystems, a holistic understanding of the processes governing the ecosystem is needed. READ MORE

  3. 8. On the lateral organisation of the thylakoid membrane

    Author : Ravi Danielsson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Thylakoid membrane heterogeneity; Plant biochemistry; Växtbiokemi; Thylakoid structure; Phase partition; Thylakoid fractions;

    Abstract : In this work the lateral heterogeneity of the thylakoid membrane was investigated by quantifying the amount of photosystem I (PSI), photosystem II (PSII) and some PSII complexes and PSII proteins in different domains of the thylakoid. Grana, grana core, grana margins and stroma lamellae + end fractions were obtained by sonication and separation in a non-detergent, aqueous polymer two-phase system. READ MORE

  4. 9. Degradation of wood polysaccharides by fungal glycoside hydrolases

    Author : Torny Eriksson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Penicillium brasilianum; ethanol; cellulose; wood polysaccharides; Man5A hemicellulase; cellulase; endoglucanase; cellobiohydrolase; Cel7B; Cel7A; Trichoderma reesei; glycoside hydrolase; Plant biochemistry; Växtbiokemi;

    Abstract : The enzymatic degradation of wood polysaccharides such as cellulose and hemicellulose is an important process in nature. In addition, cellulases and hemicellulases can be used in industrial applications. Fuel ethanol can potentially be produced from wood by enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose followed by yeast fermentation of the formed sugars. READ MORE

  5. 10. Signalling in plant mitochondria. Redox regulation of gene expression & characterisation of a pea nucleoside diphosphate kinase

    Author : Martha L Escobar Galvis; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mitochondrial gene expression; redox; respiratory complex II; NDPK; protein interactions; heat-stress; Växtbiokemi; Plant biochemistry;

    Abstract : This work contributes to our understanding of mitochondrial responses to changing environmental conditions in plants. The first part of this thesis is focused in the study of redox regulation of mitochondrial gene expression. By using inhibitors, the redox state of the components of the mitochondrial respiratory chain was selectively affected. READ MORE
