  1. 11. Angiogenesis Related Markers In Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

    Author : Daniel Brattström; Ola Brodin; Gunnar Wagenius; Torgny Rasmusen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; Lung cancer; NSCLC; Therapy; Angiogenesis; VEGF; bFGF; Microvessel density; Survival; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Abstract : This thesis investigated the predictive and the prognostic powers of angiogenesis related markers in both operable and inoperable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients.In the first and second study, we investigated the serological fractions of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) in 2 cohorts of patients with either operable or inoperable NSCLC. 2. 12. Identification and Characterization of Proteins and MicroRNAs that Modulate Receptor Signaling, Vesicular Trafficking and Cell Migration in Vascular Cells

    Author : Johan Heldin; Johan Kreuger; Jonas Fuxe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Angiogenesis; cell migration; signaling; VEGF; FGD5; ExoC3L2; microRNA; RhoD; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Abstract : Blood vessels deliver nutrients and oxygen to tissues. Importantly, the functions and growth of blood vessels are commonly altered in disease. The inside of all blood vessels are lined with endothelium, a thin specialized layer of endothelial cells that separate the blood from other tissues. READ MORE

  3. 13. Hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs) and biological responses, in hypoxia, inflammation and embryonic vascular development

    Author : Maria Hägg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Embryonic stem cell; embryoid body; HIF-1a; hypoxia; VEGF; angiogenesis; vasculogenesis; peritoneal dialysis;

    Abstract : ABSTRACT Low oxygen tension (hypoxia) is a major inducer of neovascularisation and evidence emerging has indicated that oxygen tension and hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs), a family of oxygen-regulated heterodimeric transcription factors, may play important roles in vascular and hematopoietic development. This thesis has focused on studying molecular and cellular mechanisms, by which cells and organisms sense changes in oxygen tension, and how this signal is transduced by HIFs into downstream signalling. 4. 14. Protein tyrosine kinases in insulin producing cells : Expression and putative importance for beta-cell function

    Author : Charlotte Öberg-Welsh; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Protein tyrosine kinase; insulin producing cells; fetal development; VEGF; Src-family; Bsk; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Abstract : Protein tyrosine kinases are of importance for cell replication and differentiation in manysystems. The mechanisms controlling the replication and differentiation of insulin producingcells are unknown. READ MORE

  5. 15. Treatment of Experimental Neuroblastoma with Angiogenic Inhibitors

    Author : Ulrika Bäckman; Rolf Christofferson; Sven Påhlman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Angiogenesis; Neuroblastoma; MYCN; VEGF; SU11657; SU5416; TNP-470; zoledronic acid; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin;

    Abstract : Neuroblastoma is a childhood cancer that originates from neuroblasts in the peripheral nervous system. Neuroblastoma show considerable heterogeneity with respect to location, responsiveness to treatment and prognosis. READ MORE
