1. Aspects of microstructural evolution in chromium steels in high temperature applications
Abstract : In this thesis 9-12 % Cr steels, used for high-temperaturecomponents in fossil-fired power plants are considered. Thecreep strength of thees steels depend on their microstructurethat consists of a matrix of tempered lath martensite withdensely distributed precipitates. READ MORE

2. Reactivity of Metal Clusters with Diatomic Molecules
Abstract : The reactivity of transition-metal clusters, in the approximate size range 10-60 atoms, with diatomic molecules has been investigated. A pulsed beam of neutral clusters is produced by a laser-vaporization source and passed through a low-pressure reaction cell containing the reactive gas. READ MORE

3. Multiscale Modeling of Interfaces
Abstract : Understanding strength and stability of interfaces between dissimilar materials or phases is a highly active field of contemporary materials research. Knowledge of interface structure and energetics is important for modeling of complex materials both on a mechanical and thermodynamical level as well as for many functional properties. READ MORE

4. A theoretical study of mass transport processes on TiN(001) and mechanical properties of TiN- and VN-based ternaries
Abstract : This thesis concerns computer simulations, using classical molecular dynamics, of transport processes related to TiN(001) growth. It is motivated from the challenge to understand transport processes at the atomic scale responsible for crystal and film growth and their different growth modes. READ MORE

5. Pathogenesis of infections related to foreign devices within the cerebral ventricles
Abstract : Coagulase-negative staphyloccoci (CoNS) are the most frequently isolated micro-organisms from infected cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunts and temporary ventricular drainage catheters, used in modern neurosurgery. CoNS originate from the skinflora of the patient or the surgeon and gain access to the surface of the implant at the insertion, but the infection can erupt up to a year later or more. READ MORE
