  1. 6. A Seeing Place – Connecting Physical and Virtual Spaces

    Author : Josef Wideström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stage; VR; theatre; Virtual Space; virtual reality; place; physical space;

    Abstract : In the experience and design of spaces today, we meet both reality and virtuality. But how is the relation between real and virtual construed? How can we as researchers and designers contribute to resolving the physical-virtual divide regarding spaces? This thesis explores the relations between the physical and the virtual and investigates ways of connecting physical and virtual space, both in theory and practice. READ MORE

  2. 7. From BIM to VR - The design and development of BIMXplorer

    Author : Mikael Johansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Building Information Modeling; Virtual Reality VR ; Real-time rendering; Head-mounted display HMD ; BIM;

    Abstract : The architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industries are currently undergoing a change from a drawing-based form of information exchange to a model-based. Using the concept of Building Information Models (BIM), the content produced by architects and designers has evolved from traditional 2D-drawings to object-oriented 3D-models embedded with information to describe any building in detail. 3. 8. Evaluation and Reduction of Temporal Issues in Remote VR

    Author : Viktor Kelkkanen; Markus Fiedler; Hans-Juergen Zepernick; Veronica Sundstedt; Pablo Cesar; Blekinge Tekniska Högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Remote Rendering VR Network; Computer Science; Datavetenskap;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to study and advance knowledge and technologies surrounding remote rendering of Virtual Reality (VR). In particular regarding temporal aspects such as latency and video stalling events. In remote rendering, rendered content is commonly streamed as video images in network packets from a server to a client. READ MORE

  4. 9. Application of Virtual Reality in the study of Human Behavior in Fire : Pursuing realistic behavior in evacuation experiments

    Author : Silvia Arias; Avdelningen för Brandteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Virtual Reality; behavioral realism; fire evacuation; VR experiments;

    Abstract : Virtual Reality (VR) experiments are used to study human behavior in fire because they allow simulation of fire events with relatively low risks to the participants, while maintaining high levels of experimental control. Manystudies have used VR experiments to explore aspects of the human response to fire threats, but VR experiments as a research method are yet to be subjected to a systematic process of validation. 5. 10. Actor-Spectator in a Virtual Reality Arts Play

    Author : Magali Ljungar-Chapelon; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Artistic crossover; Virtual Reality Art; VR-Cube; Immersion; Interactivity; Experience of art; Audience experience; Performing arts;

    Abstract : This doctoral project brings to the fore the specificity of the artistic experience when the Virtual Reality Cube, a medium based on immersive virtual reality technology, is used as artistic virtual space, where the stage and the auditorium blend into one and spectators and actors no longer have distinctive roles. It consists of three integrated parts: a written thesis, a VR artwork and a DVD, which illustrates the text, the production process of the VR work, and which also presents an interpretation of the research results in filmic and photographic form.
