    Abstract : The way the fuel is introduced into the combustion chamber is one of the most important parameters for the power output and the generation of emissions in the combustion of liquid fuels. The interaction beween the turbulent gas flow field and the liquid fuel droplets, the vaporisation of them and the mixing of the gaseous fuel with the ambient air that are vital parameters in the combustion process. 2. 2. Numerical study of flows related to aerated stirred tanks

    Author : Dragana Arlov; Strömningsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; plasma; fluiddynamik; Gaser; plasmas; fluid dynamics; Gases; Lattice Boltzmann method; Volume of Fluid; Aerated stirred tank; Large Eddy Simulation; Eulerian-Lagrangian model; Energy research; Energiforskning; Mechanical engineering; hydraulics; vacuum technology; vibration and acoustic engineering; Maskinteknik; hydraulik; vakuumteknik; vibrationer; akustik;

    Abstract : The overall purpose with this work is to investigate the bubbly flow in a aerated stirred tank using numerical simulations. Aerated stirred tanks are commonly used in chemical processes for producing for example insulin and antibiotics. READ MORE

  3. 3. In-Cylinder Fluid Flow, Fuel Preparation and Combustion in SI Engines - Application of Optical Diagnostics

    Author : Martin Ekenberg; Förbränningsmotorer; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Laserteknik; vakuumteknik; vibrationer; akustik; Motors and propulsion systems; Motorer; hydraulik; Maskinteknik; PIV; vibration and acoustic engineering; hydraulics; vacuum technology; Mechanical engineering; framdrivningssystem; Laser technology;

    Abstract : In this thesis laser-based measurements of in-cylinder flow and fuel concentrations in two stroke and direct injected four-stroke engines are presented. The major problem with the carburetted two-stroke engine is the short-circuiting of fuel that occurs during the scavenging phase. This leads to large emissions of unburned hydrocarbons. READ MORE

  4. 4. Experimental investigation of flows related to gas turbine combustion

    Author : Dragan Stankovic; Strömningsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Mechanical engineering; combusiton; flameless; jets in cross flow; chemiluminescence; POD; LIF; PIV; Spray; Gas Turbine; single digit NOx; Premixed Combustion; hydraulics; vacuum technology; vibration and acoustic engineering; Maskinteknik; hydraulik; vakuumteknik; vibrationer; akustik;

    Abstract : The notion of "global warming" has become a major public-domain concept as an environmental threat to our future on earth. Independently of the accuracy of existing prediction of combustion emissions on the climate on earth, the concept of reducing combustion emissions has been an important political driving force in imposing more and more severe restrictions on harmful emissions from combustion. 5. 5. Perturbative Methods in General Relativity

    Author : Daniel Eriksson; Michael Bradley; Gert Brodin; Lászlo Árpád Gergely; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; General relativity; perturbation theory; photon-photon scattering; cosmology; FRW models with cosmological constant; Bianchi type V; slowly rotating stars; Hartle formalism; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Einstein's theory of general relativity is a cornerstone in the process of gaining increased understanding about problems of gravitational nature. It can be applied to problems on the huge length scales of cosmology and as far as we know it does not break down before the Planck scale is approached. READ MORE
