  1. 6. Epigenetic regulation of gene expression in the vascular endothelium

    Author : Mia Magnusson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; epigenetics; histone acetylation; DNA methylation; t-PA; PLAT; HUVECs; valproic acid; gene expression; enhancers;

    Abstract : Epigenetic mechanisms, such as DNA methylation and histone modifications, constitute one way for a cell or an organism to respond to changes in the surrounding environment. While histone modifications are recognized to be quite dynamic, DNA methylation has been considered a more stable, or long-term, modification. READ MORE

  2. 7. Juvenile myoclonic epilepsy : clinical, genetic, clinical pharmacological, and neurophysiological studies

    Author : Anders Sundqvist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : epilepsy; juvenile myoclonic epilepsy; idiopathic generalised epilepsy; differential diagnosis; genetics; linkage; valproic acid; pharmacokinetics; treatment; drug monitoring; EEG; neurophysiology; neuropsychology. Printed in Sweden by Repro Print; ;

    Abstract : Juvenile myoclonic epilepsy (JME) has been considered to be a discrete phenotype. Evidence from segregation analysis and twin studies suggest that JME is a genetically determined disease, and two previous linkage studies of separately ascertained kindreds have suggested that a JME locus, EJM 1, resides on chromosome 6p close to the HLA region. 3. 8. Antiepileptic drug utilization : need of sex-specific information and decision support

    Author : Linnéa Karlsson Lind; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Antiepileptic drugs are used for the treatment of epilepsy and for other neurological and psychiatric conditions, and therefore is prescribing of antiepileptic drugs a concern for physicians from many disciplines. The age and sex-specific prevalence, as well as the role of sex and gender aspects, vary between the conditions for which antiepileptic drugs are used. READ MORE

  4. 9. The Role of Microvascular Pericytes in the Generation of Pro-fibrotic Connective Tissue Cells : Investigations in vitro and in Reactive Tissues in vivo

    Author : Jakob Karén; Christian Sundberg; Gunilla Westergren-Thorsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pericyte fibroblast differentiation fibrosis; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Medical Biochemistry; Medicinsk biokemi; Cellforskning; Cell Research; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : Pericytes are cells of mesenchymal origin located on the abluminal side, juxtapositioned to the endothelial cells in capillaries, venules and small arterioles. They are important for maintaining vessel integrity in resting tissues as well as the formation and stabilization of new vessels. READ MORE

  5. 10. Acquired Epilepsy with a Focus on Stroke: Treatment and Prognosis

    Author : David Larsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; epilepsy; seizure; stroke; cerebrovascular disease; antiseizure medication;

    Abstract : The relationship between epilepsy and stroke is complicated. While stroke is a major cause of epilepsy after middle age, there is also evidence that the risk of stroke is increased in persons with epilepsy. The overall aim of this dissertation is to elaborate on the prognosis and treatment of epilepsy in older adults and its association to stroke. READ MORE
