1. Legg-Calvé-Perthes´ disease. Synovitis, cartilage, remodeling
Abstract : This thesis evaluates and correlates the findings in a series of children with Legg-Calvé-Perthes´ Disease at the Departments of Orthopedics, University Hospitals in Lund, Sweden and Odense, Denmark during 1984-1993. It focuses on the importance of synovitis and its effect on the cartilage, on the shape of the femoral head in the early phases of LCPD and on femoral head remodeling after proximal femoral varus derotation osteotomy. 2. Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Legg-Calvé-Perthes Disease
Abstract : The aims of this study were: to compare the cartilaginous outline of the femoral head obtained on arthrograms with those on MR images and to correlate it to the bony head outlines on conventional radiograps; to study early, postoperative cartilaginous and bony remodeling of the femoral head, after proximal femoral varus derotation extension osteotomy, with MR imaging and conventional radiography; to describe signal abnormalities on MR images in the femoral epiphysis, their location, extent and restitution over time; to evaluate the degree and persistence of synovitis in the hip joint by MR imaging; to analyze the metaphyseal histology and to correlate it to the signal intensity on the MR images in the corresponding biopsy region. Results and conclusions: MR imaging and arthrography define the shape of the femoral head cartilage equally well. READ MORE

3. Knee joint kinematics and the effects of arthropasty component design
Abstract : Aims: To evaluate the influence of medial osteoarthritis on knee joint kinematics and the effect of design in total knee replacements (TKR) on the kinematics of trunk, hip, knee and ankle. Associations between articulating surface design, clinical outcome and fixation of the tibial component were also evaluated. READ MORE

4. Guinea pig osteoarthrosis : morphological and biochemical studies
Abstract : Hartley guinea pigs spontaneously and reproducibly develop an arthropathy mimicking human primary osteoarthrosis. The morphological lesions first appear between 6 and 12 months of age, when it is confined to the non-meniscus-covered central compartment of the medial tibial plateau without initially involving the lateral side. 5. The importance of biomechanical restoration for total hip arthroplasty
Abstract : Total hip arthroplasty (THA) has become a safe and very successful surgical intervention. A vast majority of patients get their expectations met. Improvement of materials, implant designs, and surgical techniques, have extended prosthetic survival. READ MORE
