  1. 21. Assessment of microvascular and metabolic responses in the skin

    Author : Fredrik Iredahl; Erik Tesselaar; Folke Sjöberg; Simon Farnebo; Sven Andersson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The general aim of this project was to develop experimental in vivo models that allow for minimally invasive investigations of responses in the skin to microvascular and metabolic provocations. The cutaneous microvasculature has emerged as a valuable model and been proposed to mirror the microcirculation in other organs. READ MORE

  2. 22. Vardenafil and methylarginines in pulmonary hypertension

    Author : Anna Sandqvist; Gerhard Wikström; Jörn Schneede; Amrita Ahluwalia; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; vardenafil; pulmonary hypertension; pharmacokinetics; haemodynamics; right heart catheterization; adenosine; dimethylarginines; phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors; endothelin receptor antagonists; klinisk farmakologi; Clinical Pharmacology;

    Abstract : Background: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a rare condition characterized by endothelial dysfunction and vascular remodelling, leading to increased pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) and right ventricular heart failure. Endothelial dysfunction is associated with an imbalance between vasoconstrictor compounds, such as endothelin and thromboxane A2, and vasodilator compounds, such as prostacyclin and nitric oxide (NO). 3. 23. Delirium in the elderly. The construction of a rating scale and aspects on risk factors and treatment

    Author : Barbro Robertsson; Göteborgs universitet; []

    Abstract : The rates of delirium were studied in patients with four different dementia disorders and also in patients with different regional brain syndromes. The function of the stress-regulating system was compared between demented patients with delirium and those without. READ MORE

  4. 24. Distribution and function of TRP ion channels in primary sensory neurons

    Author : Helena Sturesson; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []

    Abstract : It is frequently argued that cannabinoids exert part of their analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects via activation of the cannabinoid CB1 receptor located on TRPV1-expressing primary sensory nerve fibres in peripheral tissues. However, we find no evidence of CB1 receptor immunoreactivity on nerve fibres in rat or mouse hindpaw skin and mesenteric artery. READ MORE

  5. 25. Application of a New Logic to Old Drugs: Angiogenesis Inhibition in Neuroblastoma

    Author : Åsa Svensson; Rolf Christofferson; Per Kogner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell biology; angiogenesis; neuroblastoma; CHS 828; digoxin; combination treatment; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology; medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Neuroblastoma is one of the most common solid cancers of early childhood. In Sweden, approximately 10-15 cases occur annually. The overall five-year neuroblastoma survival in Europe is approximately 45%. Since cancer treatment involves drugs with risks of side effects in the growing child, there is a need for more effective and less toxic drugs. READ MORE
