1. Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy : Genetic and Electrocardiographic Aspects on Risk of Ventricular Arrhythmia and Diagnosis
Abstract : Introduction: ARVC (Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy) is a heritable rare disease of the heart muscle, primarily affecting the right ventricle, that may cause arrhythmias and heart failure.Aim: The overall aim of this thesis was to study various aspects of genetic information and electrocardiography (ECG), for their use in diagnosis and risk evaluation in ARVC. 2. Electrocardiographic Imaging of Myocardial Ischemia, Infarction and Scar: Correlation with SPECT, MRI and Arrhythmias
Abstract : This thesis focuses on the development and testing of electrocardiographic (ECG) methods to diagnose and characterize myocardial ischemia, infarction and fibrosis (scar). The goal is to provide improved decision support to physicians regarding the optimal selection of patients for two costly, invasive therapies – percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI) and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) for patients with heart failure and reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). 3. Computer-based detection of cardiac arrhythmias : methods and systems
Abstract : The aim of this study was to develop methods and systems which could improve the accuracy or arrhythmia monitoring and analysis of long-term ECGs and eliminate or reduce the need for continuous visual ECG screening. The detection of arrhythmias was based on an automatic classification of heart beats, using waveform features obtained from a basis signals representation. READ MORE

4. Noninvasive characterization of patients with monomorphic ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation using the signal-averaged electrocardiogram. A study on late potentials and spectral turbulence in patients with ischemic heart disease and in healthy subjects
Abstract : Many people die suddenly from sustained ventricular tachyarrhythmias caused by ischemic heart disease, and the sudden death may be the first presentation of heart disease. If the patients at risk of ventricular tachyarrhythmia could be identified, some patients may be saved. READ MORE

5. Signal Characterization of Atrial Arrhythmias using the Surface ECG
Abstract : This doctoral thesis is comprised of five parts which deal with different signal processing problems in ECG-based characterization of atrial arrhythmias. Such characterization requires that the ventricular activity has first been cancelled in the ECG. READ MORE
