  1. 1. Towards a Refined Model of Neutrophil Motility

    Author : Vesa-Matti Loitto; Karl-Eric Magnusson; Tommy Andersson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; human polymorphonuclear leukocytes. PMNL; neutrophils; neutrophil motility; N-formyl-Met-Leu-Phe; Medical microbiology; Medicinsk mikrobiologi;

    Abstract : The ability of human polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNL; neutrophils), to sense and move to sites of infection is essential for our defense against pathogens. Cell motility is critically dependent on a dynamic remodeling of morphology. READ MORE

    Abstract : The ability of eukaryotic cells to change their shape and to migrate directionally is highly dependent on active volume regulation in cells building up tissues as well as in individual cells. Transmembrane fluxes of water via specialized water channels, called aquaporins (AQPs), facilitate the changes of volume and shape, which additionally require a complex interplay between the plasma membrane and the cytoskeleton.
