2. Early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease : focus on quantitative EEG in relation to genetic, biochemical and neuroimaging markers
Abstract : The main aims of this thesis were to explore whether quantitative EEG (qEEG) variables could be considered as positive markers of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and sensitive indices of disease progression and treatment effects, as well as to determine their relation to currently existing genetic, biochemical and neuroimaging markers. The main findings of seven subsequent studies are summarized as follows: 1) Combined alpha and theta relative power and temporo-parietal alpha band coherence were the best combination of qEEG variables for the discrimination of mild to moderate AD patients and healthy controls, giving 89% overall correct classification accuracy. 3. Phenotypes and genotypes in families with hereditary tapetoretinal degenerations
Abstract : The purpose of the study was to characterise the phenotype with emphasis on electroretinography in four different types of hereditary retinal degeneration and to correlate it to a genotype when possible. While therapeutic doses of paracetamol are considered harmless during these periods, recent findings in both humans and rodents suggest a link between developmental exposure to paracetamol and behavioral consequences later in life.
