  1. 1. Sensorimotor Therapy: Assessing Quantitative and Qualitative Expressions of Physiological and Psychological Development in Children

    Author : Mats Niklasson; Torsten Norlander; Peder Rasmussen; Magnus Lindwall; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Developmental Coordination Disorder; Learning Disorder; ADHD; Primary reflexes; Vestibular stimulation; Psycholigical development; Regression; Retraining for Balance; Developmental Coordination Disorder; Inlärningssvårigheter; ADHD; Primära reflexer; Vestibulär stimulering; Psykologisk utveckling; Regression; Retraining for Balance; Psykologi; Psychology;

    Abstract : The first purpose of this thesis was to examine whether sensorimotor therapy utilizing the training program ”Retraining for Balance” might be an appropriate technique for sensorimotor proficiency. The second purpose was to gain increased understanding of the effects of sensorimotor therapy on the physical and psychological development of children and youth. READ MORE

    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physical medicine; kinesitherapy; revalidation; rehabilitation; Rehabilitering medicinsk och social ; Adaptation; Postural control; Proprioception; Vestibular; Posturography; neuropsykologi; Neurologi; neurophysiology; neuropsychology; Neurology; hörsel- och talorganen; audiologi; Otorinolaryngologi; auditive system and speech; audiology; Otorhinolaryngology; Movement pattern; Sensorimotor integration; Muscle fatigue; Age; Cutaneous sensation; neurofysiologi;

    Abstract : The ability to obtain correct balance control information and adjust motor performance appropriately are essential elements in effective postural control. However, functional disorders may affect the reliability of receptor information and ability to carry out corrective motions needed to maintain balance. READ MORE

  3. 3. Vestibular control of body orientation in lamprey

    Author : Elena Pavlova; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Postural control; orientation; vision; vestibular system; visuo-vestibular interaction; vestibular compensation; locomotion; supraspinal control; lamprey;

    Abstract : Maintenance of body orientation (postural control) is a vital motor function of the brain. The general goal of this project was to understand the organization and operation of neuronal networks responsible for postural control. The lamprey (a lower vertebrate) was used as a model animal. 4. 4. Vulvar vestibulitis syndrome : pathophysiology of the vestibular mucosa

    Author : Nina Bohm-Starke; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Vulvar vestibulitis syndrome; immunohistochemistry; QST; COX 2; NOS; laser Doppler perfusion imaging; intraepithelial nerve fibres; pain thresholds; sensory stimulation.;

    Abstract : Objective: The main purpose of the study was to survey possible pathophysiological changes of the vestibular mucosa in women with vulvar vestibulitis syndrome with regard to the clinical findings of superficial dyspareunia and mucosal erythema. Methods: Biopsies analysed with immunohistochemistry were used to study the morphology, distribution and neuropeptide content of the peripheral nerves, and the microvascularisation of the vestibular mucosa. 5. 5. Combined oral contraceptives : impact on the vulvar vestibular mucosa and pain mechanisms

    Author : Ulrika Johannesson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : combined oral contraceptives; quantitative sensory testing; pain thresholds; DNIC; endogenous; pain modulation; provoked vestibulodynia; vulvar vestibulitis syndrome; morphology; vulvar mucosa; steroid receptors;

    Abstract : Objective: The main aim of this thesis was to study the impact of combined oral contraceptives (COC) on the vulvar vestibular mucosa and pain mechanisms; in healthy women and in women with provoked vestibulodynia (former vulvar vestibulitis syndrome). The somatosensory perception in the vulvar vestibular mucosa of healthy women was studied with the relation to COC. READ MORE
