  1. 1. Genomic Organization and Capsid Architecture of Ljungan Virus a Novel Member of the Picornaviridae

    Author : Susanne Johansson; Michael Lindberg; Einar Everitt; Tapani Hovi; [2002]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICINE Microbiology; immunology; infectious diseases Microbiology Virology; MEDICIN Mikrobiologi; immunologi; infektionssjukdomar Mikrobiologi Virologi; Virologi; Virology;

    Abstract : Ljungan virus är ett virus som isolerades i Sverige i mitten på nittiotalet. Under perioden 1989-1992 avled flera svenska elitorienterare plötsligt i hjärtmuskelinflammation. Man misstänkte att orienterarna kunde ha utsatts för en vektorburen infektion eftersom de exponeras för djur som finns i skog och mark under träning och tävling. READ MORE

    Abstract : Influenza A virus belongs to the Orothomyxoviridae family of viruses and is one of the most common pathogens that cause infections of the respiratory tract. The aim of this thesis was to investigate if neuraminidase inhibitor (NAI) Tamiflu® (oseltamivir, OC) and Relenza® (zanamivir, ZA) - related resistance mutations exist in the neuraminidase (NA) gene of viruses collected from wild birds. Abstract : PCR is widely employed as a rapid, sensitive and specific molecular diagnostic technique in clinical diagnosis, environmental investigations and for monitoring biotechnical processes. However, the full potential of diagnostic PCR is limited, in part, by the presence of PCR-inhibitory substances in biological samples. READ MORE

  5. 5. Genomic Diversity and Evolution of Parasitism in Nematode-trapping Fungi

    University dissertation from Microbial Ecology, Lund University

    Author : Dag Ahrén; [2001]

    Abstract : Nematode-trapping fungi are soil-living organisms that have the ability to form infection structures, traps to capture nematodes. Many nematode species are parasites on plants and animals, which have resulted in an interest to use the nematode-trapping fungi as biological control agents. READ MORE
