21. Vision in sight : the relationships between knowledge, health beliefs and treatment outcomes : the case of amblyopia
Abstract : The research reported is an experimental study on the effects of intensified education of parents of children with amblyopia on their understanding of the nature of the disease, its origins and treatment. Parents in the control group were exposed to the ordinary information provided at two departments of pediatric ophtalmology, whereas parents in the experimental group, attending the same clinics, were asked to read a booklet aiming at enhancing their understanding of the meaning of amblyopia and amblyopia-related phenomena. 22. Computer Vision for Automated Traffic Safety Assessment : A Machine Learning Approach
Abstract : Traffic safety is a complex and important research area with the potential to save many lives in the future. Two key problems are considered, namely the gathering of reliable and detailed road user statistics which can be used to estimate the safety of a traffic environment and taking advantage of surveillance infrastructure to guide and assist vehicles in real time, primarily autonomous ones. 23. Adaptations for nocturnal vision in insect apposition eyes
Abstract : Due to our own preference for bright light, we tend to forget that many insects are active in very dim light. The reasons for nocturnal activity are most easily seen in tropical areas of the world, where animals face severe competition for food and nocturnal insects are able to forage in a climate of reduced competition and predation. 24. Natural Vision for Artificial Systems, Active Vision and Thought
Abstract : The visual system in animals and humans consists of a number of information processing units that are here called visual routines. These routines are specialized in handling different cognitive tasks, for example, object recognition, motion, stereo, color, texture, and optic flow. READ MORE

25. Polynomial Solvers for Geometric Problems - Applications in Computer Vision and Sensor Networks
Abstract : Given images of a scene taken by a moving camera or recordings of a moving smart phone playing a song by a microphone array, how hard is it to reconstruct the scene structure or the moving trajectory of the phone? In this thesis, we study and solve several fundamental geometric problems in order to provide solutions to these problems. The key underlying technique for solving such geometric problems is solving systems of polynomial equations. READ MORE
