1. Investigations of neural attractor dynamics in human visual awareness
Abstract : What we see, how we see it and what emotions may arise from stimuli has long been studied by philosophers, psychologists, medical doctors and neuroscientists. This thesis work investigates a particular view on the possible dynamics, utilizing computational models of spiking neural attractor networks. READ MORE

2. Neural limits of visual resolution
Abstract : Aims: The aim of this thesis was to formulate a model of retinal neural circuitry in humans based on morphological estimates of retinal cone and ganglion cell populations, to compare results based on this model to psychophysical measurements of visual resolution and identify the retinal neural factors that limit visual resolution.Materials & Methods: Total displacement of central ganglion cells from foveal cones was obtained by estimating the length of fibers of Henle in four human retinas along the nasal or vertical hemi-meridians. 3. Photoreceptor degeneration, second order neuron remodeling and glia reactivity in an in vivo and in vitro model of retinal neurodegeneration
Abstract : Photoreceptors have the ability to last during the entire lifespan of an individual. Being the first line of neurons in the visual transduction pathway, their health and maintenance is eminent for proper retinal function. However, photoreceptors are susceptible to neurodegenerative retinal dystrophies. READ MORE

4. Experimental Injury to the Visual System : Molecular Studies of the Retina
Abstract : Retinal ganglion cells play a crucial role in the relay of visual signals from the eye to the brain. This cell type is affected and eventually lost in the eye disease glaucoma, resulting in progressive and irreversible loss of vision. READ MORE

5. The processing of natural images in the visual system
Abstract : Any image can be described in terms of its statistics (i.e. quantitative parameters calculated from the image, for example RMS-contrast, the skewness of image brightness distribution, and slope constant of an average amplitude spectrum). READ MORE
