  1. 1. Visual influences on vestibular compensation and postural control

    Author : Anna Hafström; Lund näs- och halssjukdomar Öron-; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Otorhinolaryngology; audiology; auditive system and speech; Otorinolaryngologi; Medicin människa och djur ; Vestibular schwannoma; Alcohol intoxication.; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Vestibular deafferentation; Visual-vestibular interactions; Subjective visual horizontal and vertical; Visual dependence; Utriculus; Balance; Vision; audiologi; hörsel- och talorganen;

    Abstract : This thesis aimed to investigate visual-vestibular interactions in healthy subjects and in patients with a well defined unilateral vestibular lesion (vestibular schwannoma before and six months after translabyrinthine surgery). Visual information is particularly important for balance control during perturbed stance. READ MORE

  2. 2. Neural limits of visual resolution

    Author : Zoran Popovic; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cell separation; cortical magnification; detection; estimated receptive field; high-pass filtered optotypes; nyquist limit; psychophysics; resolution; ganglion cells;

    Abstract : Aims: The aim of this thesis was to formulate a model of retinal neural circuitry in humans based on morphological estimates of retinal cone and ganglion cell populations, to compare results based on this model to psychophysical measurements of visual resolution and identify the retinal neural factors that limit visual resolution.Materials & Methods: Total displacement of central ganglion cells from foveal cones was obtained by estimating the length of fibers of Henle in four human retinas along the nasal or vertical hemi-meridians. 3. 3. Late effects on hearing and balance after treatment for childhood cancer

    Author : Einar-Jon Einarsson; Lund näs- och halssjukdomar Öron-; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Childhood cancer; Chemotherapy; Late effects; Hearing; Word Recogniton; Postural Control; Oculomotor Control; Subjective horizontal and vertical; Visual dependence; Self-reported disability and handicap.;

    Abstract : During the last several decades, improvements in diagnostic skills and in the treatment of children with cancer have substantially increased the number of long term survivors of childhood cancer. Treatment of children with cytostatic drugs is known to create a range of late adverse effects. READ MORE

  4. 4. Transverse Chromatic Aberration and Vision: Quantification and Impact across the Visual Field

    Author : Simon Winter; Linda Lundström; Stephen Burns; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; transverse chromatic aberration; lateral chromatic aberration; visual optics; peripheral vision; central vision; dispersion; ophthalmic optics and devices; optical effects on vision; retinal imaging; myopia; human eye; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : The eye is our window to the world. Human vision has therefore been extensively studied over the years. However, in-depth studies are often either limited to our central visual field, or, when extended to the periphery, only correct optical errors related to a narrow spectrum of light. READ MORE
