    Abstract : In this thesis we study strongly coupled pairs of spin vortices, in a configurationsuch that the cores attract while external fields act to pull them apart, with potential applications in magnetic random access memory (MRAM) and oscillators.Inertial decoupling of the cores has been studied and can be achieved with weak nanosecond pulses by the help of anharmonicity. 2. 2. Structural characterization of Deinococcus radiodurans phytochrome in solution

    Author : Lidija Vrhovac; Sebastian Westenhoff; Vladislav Orekhov; Magnus Wolf-Watz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Phytochromes are red/far-red photoreceptors which control a wide spectrum of biological processes inplants, fungi, and bacteria. Although phytochromes have been extensively studied, their mechanism ofaction still remains elusive. The signaling mechanism suggested by crystal structures involves refoldingof the so-called PHY tongue. READ MORE

  3. 3. Breaking the Dimensionality Curse of Voronoi Tessellations

    Author : Vladislav Polianskii; Florian T. Pokorny; Michael Bronstein; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; geometric methods; machine learning methods; Voronoi; Delaunay; high dimensional geometry; curse of dimensionality; monte carlo; Datalogi; Computer Science;

    Abstract : Considering the broadness of the area of artificial intelligence, interpretations of the underlying methodologies can be commonly narrowed down to either a probabilistic or a geometric point of view. Such separation is especially prevalent in more classical "pre-neural-network" machine learning if one compares Bayesian modelling with more deterministic models like nearest neighbors. READ MORE

  4. 4. Spin-diode effect and thermally controlled switching in magnetic spin-valves

    Author : Sebastian Andersson; Vladislav Korenivski; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis demonstrates two new device concepts that are based on the tunneling and giant magnetoresistance effects. The first is a semiconductor-free asymmetric magnetic double tunnel junction that is shown to work as a diode, while at the same time exhibiting a record high magnetoresistance. READ MORE

  5. 5. Resonant switching and vortex dynamics in spin-flop bi-layers

    Author : Sergiy Cherepov; Vladislav Korenivski; Thomas Silva; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spin-dynamics; MRAM; vortex; switching; Condensed matter physics; Kondenserade materiens fysik; Magnetism; Magnetism; Mesoscopic physics; Mesoskopisk fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis is a study of the static and dynamic behavior of the magne-tization in spin-flop bi-layers, which consist of two soft ferromagnetic layerscoupled by dipolar forces through a thin nonmagnetic spacer. The focus ofthe work is three fold: collective spin dynamics in the anti-parallel groundstate; resonant switching in the presence of thermal agitation; and static anddynamic behavior of the system in the vortex-pair state, with a particularemphasis on the interlayer core-core interaction.
