  1. 1. Modeling Phase Transformations and Volume Changes during Cooling of Case Hardening Steels

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH

    Author : Matilda Tehler; KTH.; [2009]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Phase transformation; volume changes; TECHNOLOGY Materials science Other materials science; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Teknisk materialvetenskap Övrig teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : Case hardening distortions are a major problem for gear manufacturers. The aim of the current work is to create a simulation model, able to predict how and when case hardening distortions arise. The results presented in this thesis form a basis for such a model.Two case hardening steels, with base carbon contents of 0. READ MORE

  2. 2. Endotracheal Suction a Reopened Problem

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Birgitta Almgren; Uppsala universitet.; [2005]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; Mechanical; ventilation; endotracheal; suction; lung; volume; loss; gas; exchange; Fysiologi; MEDICINE Physiology and pharmacology Physiology; MEDICIN Fysiologi och farmakologi Fysiologi;

    Abstract : During mechanical ventilation, patients are connected to the ventilator by an endotracheal tube. The tube needs to be cleaned from mucus by suction, which can cause negative effects such as lung collapse, hypoxemia and desaturation. READ MORE

  3. 3. Ethanol-mediated effects on astroglial cells in primary culture. With a focus on acute changes in intracellular Ca2+, cell volume, actin filaments, and gap junction coupling

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Louise Adermark; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2003]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; astrocyte; BaCl2; cell swelling; fura-2; furosemide; ouabain; scrape loading; volume estimation;

    Abstract : The astroglial cells are abundant in the central nervous system (CNS), where they control and regulate the homeostasis of the extracellular milieu. A change in astroglial cell volume, mediated through activation of neuroactive substances or changes in osmolarity, leads to changes in the size and geometry of the extracellular space volume, which could affect the diffusion and concentration of neuroactive substances. 4. 4. Monitoring alveolar recruitment in the critically ill - Patient studies using electric impedance tomography and volume-dependent compliance

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Karin Lowhagen; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2010]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ALI; ARDS; compliance; end-expiratory lung volume; EELV; EIT; electric impedance tomography; lung recruitment; morbid obesity; PEEP; recruitment manoeuvre; regional ventilation; volume-dependent compliance;

    Abstract : Background: Acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) are associated with a high mortality rate and poor long term outcome in terms of quality of life, for those who survive. Similarly, patients with morbid obesity are at risk for respiratory complications when subjected to anaesthesia and surgery. READ MORE

  5. 5. Recommendation changes in walls of glass perceived roles and relative importance of direct contacts

    University dissertation from Luleå : Luleå tekniska universitet

    Author : Jeaneth Johansson; Luleå tekniska universitet.; [2004]
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Redovisning och styrning; Accounting and Control;

    Abstract : The equities recommendations of financial analysts to investors are often seen as mysterious created through skilled handcraft difficult to understand for the uninitiated. The core issue in this study is connected to the stock market functioning and the ability of analysts to disclose reliable and similar information to investors. READ MORE
