  1. 1. On wear of wood-cutting tools : Tool materials, wear mechanisms and modelling

    Author : Johan Nordström; []
    Keywords : Tool material; Wood cutting; Wear; Modelling;

    Abstract : Bandsaw blades are commonly used in the sawmill industry for timber cutting. The saw teeth are gradually worn during cutting and will finally cause unacceptable surface roughness and dimensional deviations on the sawn wood product. Maintenance by re-sharpening of the saw teeth is therefore necessary after a certain time of sawing. READ MORE

  2. 2. Lubrication mechanism of hydrocarbon-mimicking ionic liquids

    Author : Erik Nyberg; Ichiro Minami; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; P-SiSO; boundary film; silicate; friction; wear; anti-wear; friction modifier; base fluid; Maskinelement; Machine Elements;

    Abstract : Lubrication is critical in order to achieve high efficiency and reliability of machine elements such as gears, bearings, and other moving mechanical assemblies (MMA). In space applications, tribological properties of lubricants are quickly growing more important. READ MORE

  3. 3. Wear mechanisms in sheet metal forming : Effects of tool microstructure, adhesion and temperature

    Author : Anders Gåård; Pavel Krakhmalev; Jens Bergström; Ulf Olofsson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; Galling; sheet metal forming; wear; friction; adhesion; temperature; Materialteknik; Materials Engineering;

    Abstract : The general trend in the car body manufacturing industry is towards low-series production and reduction of press lubricants and car weight. The limited use of lubricants, in combination with the introduction of high and ultrahigh-strength sheet materials, continuously increases the demands on the forming tools. READ MORE

  4. 4. A study on wear characteristics of high strength steels under sliding contact

    Author : Abdulbaset Mussa; Pavel Krakhmalev; Jens Bergström; Jens Hardell; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; High strength steels; thread joint wear; punch wear; sliding wear; surface cracking; reciprocal sliding; fatigue; surface delamination; white etching layer; nano-structured layer; friction; Materialteknik; Materials Engineering;

    Abstract : In the last decades, significant improvements regarding the design, materials and technology of rock drills have been made. Likewise, in sheet metal forming, forming tools experience very high contact pressures when processing high strength steel sheets. READ MORE

  5. 5. Wear and Fixation of the acetabular component : in vivo evaluation of different polyethylenes and modes of fixation in total hip arthroplasty

    Author : Stephan Maximilian Röhrl; Kjell Gunnar Nilsson; Bo Nivbrant; Lars Nordsletten; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; total hip arthroplasty; acetabular component; wear; fixation; osteolysis; Radiostereometry; RSA; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; ortopedi; Orthopaedics;

    Abstract : Polyethylene wear and micromotion of the implant play an important role in multifactorial etiology of osteolysis leading to aseptic loosening of the acetabular components. Despite excellent results in primary total hip arthoplasty in a 10-15 year perspective there are still unsolved problems. READ MORE
