1. Extraction of logging residues for bioenergy : effects of operational methods on fuel quality and biomass losses in the forest
Abstract : Wood products play a key role in the transformation to a more sustainable society based on renewable bio-based resources, together with the positive effects on climate mitigation by replacing fossil fuels. However, to increase the use of forest fuel in practice it is important to understand the effects of handling and storage on its quality and removal of nutrients from the forest. READ MORE

2. Development towards an efficient and sustainable biofuel drying
Abstract : The usage of biofuel as well as wood fuel has increased in Sweden and all of Europe during recent decades, and there are several reasons to believe that this increase will continue. An important reason for this increase is that the environmental and climate problems caused by fossil fuels are becoming even more evident. READ MORE

3. Steam Explosion of Wood
Abstract : The rising price of petroleum and environmental concerns regarding CO2 emissions has increased interest in alternative renewable resources. Biomass can be considered as an excellent alternative raw material. A biorefinery uses biomass and produces fuel, energy and value-added chemicals. READ MORE

4. Principles and Models of Solid Fuel Combustion
Abstract : Combustion of solid fuels stands for a substantial part of the heat and power production in the world. In this thesis different aspects related to the thermochemical conversion of solid fuels in fluidized and fixed beds are treated, such as: the combustion temperature of a fuel particle related to the surrounding temperature in a fluidized bed combustor (FBC); the fuel loading in a FBC; a transient description of the conversion of non-spherical fuel particles; the thermochemical properties and composition of volatiles released from wood; the thermal conductivity of wood during different stages of conversion; the modelling of a grate furnace; the general combustion behaviour of a fixed bed on a reciprocating or a travelling grate; and finally, the design and construction of experimental units for investigation of combustion in a fixed bed. 5. The effect of wood properties on oxidative isolation of cellulose nanofibrils and characterization of networks
Abstract : Wood is a natural resource that has been an integral part of society for as long as humans have been on Earth. From serving as fuel for fire and construction material the applications of wood has been developed in modern times and only surged as a consequence of societal strive for sustainability and usage of green resources.
