  1. 1. The influence of biogenic organic compounds on cloud formation

    Author : Sanna Ekström; Barbara Nozière; Tomas Alsberg; Hans-Christen Hansson; Ernest Weingartner; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : biogenic; aerosol; CCN; water-soluble; microorganisms; surfactant; organosulfate; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Aerosols and clouds provide the largest uncertainty in the atmospheric radiation budget. The main focus of this thesis was to investigate the ability of organic compounds in aerosol particles to form clouds, and more specifically those emitted by living organisms. READ MORE

  2. 2. Transition metal-catalysed enol formation from allylic alcohols : Isomerisation, C−C and C−F bond formations

    Author : Nanna Ahlsten; Hans Adolfsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the isomerisation of allylic alcohols into enols and enolates catalysed by transition metal complexes. The transformation has been used to prepare both unsubstituted and α-substituted carbonyl compounds. Significant attention has been given to the mechanistic aspects of the reactions. READ MORE

  3. 3. Synthesis of aromatic bis- and tris(amino acids) and chiral dendrimers

    Author : Andreas Ritzén; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organisk kemi; Organic chemistry; HWE reaction; asymmetric hydrogenation; Heck reaction; Amino acids; chiral dendrimers;

    Abstract : A number of protected aromatic bis- and tris(amino acids) have been synthesised by catalytic asymmetric hydrogenation of the corresponding didehydroamino acid derivatives. The didehydroamino acid derivatives were prepared either by a Heck coupling of a 2-amidoacrylate with an aryl dihalide, or by Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons olefination of aromatic aldehydes with phosphonylglycine reagents. 4. 4. Synthesis and applications of analogues of Tröger's base as molecular tubes, receptor and ligands

    Author : Anna Hansson; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organisk kemi; Organic chemistry; bis-crown ether analogue; molecular recognition; molecular tubes; Tröger s base; dihalo-analogues;

    Abstract : Tröger’s base was synthesized for the first time in 1887. The molecule is rigid, C2-symmetric and has a 90° angle, forming a chiral hydrophobic pocket. In this thesis, the synthesis of new analogues of Tröger’s base is described. 2- and 3-halo-substituted anilines have for the first time been condensed to Tröger’s base analogues. READ MORE

  5. 5. Quantum Chemical Modeling of Phosphoesterase Mimics and Chemistry in Confined Spaces

    Author : Henrik Daver; Fahmi Himo; Gregori Ujaque; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; density functional theory; catalysis; phosphoester hydrolysis; transesterification; supramolecular chemistry; inclusion complex; host-guest chemistry; cycloaddition; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : In this thesis, density functional theory is employed in the study of two kinds of systems that can be considered to be biomimetic in their own ways. First, three binuclear metal complexes, synthesized by the group of Prof. Ebbe Nordlander, have been investigated. READ MORE
