  1. 1. Steady waves in local and nonlocal models for water waves

    Author : Tien Truong; Matematik (naturvetenskapliga fakulteten); []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; The steady Euler equations; the Whitham equation; solitary waves; highest waves; periodic waves; transverse dynamics; The steady Euler equations; the Whitham equation; solitary waves; highest waves; periodic waves; transverse dynamics;

    Abstract : We study the steady Euler equations for inviscid, incompressible, and irrotational water waves of constant density. The thesis consists of three papers. The first paper approaches the Euler equations through a famous nonlocal model equation for gravity waves, namely the Whitham equation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Water powered percussive rock drilling : process analysis, modelling and numerical simulation

    Author : Göran Tuomas; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Vattenteknik; Water Resources Engineering;

    Abstract : This thesis is devoted to problems, processes and systems related to the recently developed water powered percussive rock drilling method. The technology, which uses ordinary water to drive down-the-hole hammers, has been used to produce more than 6 million meters of blast holes within the mining industry. READ MORE

  3. 3. Modeling of planing craft in waves

    Author : Karl Garme; Dan Zenkert; Richard Akers; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydraulic engineering; marine; ocean; Planing craft; time-domain simulation; design loads; Vattenteknik; Water engineering; Vattenteknik;

    Abstract : Simulation of the planing hull in waves has been addressed during the last 25 years and basically been approached by strip methods. This work follows that tradition and describes a time-domain strip model for simulation of the planing hull in waves. The actual fluid mechanical problem is simplified through the strip approach. 4. 4. On Steady Water Waves and Their Properties

    Author : Mats Ehrnström; Matematik (naturvetenskapliga fakulteten); []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Particle trajectories; Water waves; Vorticity; Maximum principles; Elliptic equations;

    Abstract : Abstract: This thesis consists of four papers related to various aspects of steady water waves. Paper I: Deep-water waves with vorticity: symmetry and rotational behaviour. We show that for steady, periodic, and rotational gravity deep-water waves, a monotone surface profile between troughs and crests implies symmetry. READ MORE

  5. 5. Hydrodynamics of very shallow lakes - A study in Lake Krankesjön, Sweden

    Author : Charlotta Borell Lövstedt; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; alternative stable states; field measurements; reed; resuspension; wave damping; waves; differential heating; vegetation; convective currents;

    Abstract : Shallow lakes have great ecological and recreational values. They are also largely affected by humans, mainly through eutrophication, and great efforts are therefore being put into the understanding of these ecosystems. The knowledge is however not complete, and more research is needed to manage these lakes in a sustainable way. READ MORE
