  1. 1. Numerical Modelling and Statistical Analysis of Ocean Wave Energy Converters and Wave Climates

    Author : Wei Li; Isberg Jan; Jens Peter Kofoed; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Wave power; Wave energy converter; Gravity-based foundation; Power absorption; Wave spectrum; Linear generator; Frequency domain; Wave climate; Ocean wave modelling; Mixed-distribution model; Bivariate distribution; Archimedean copula;

    Abstract : Ocean wave energy is considered to be one of the important potential renewable energy resources for sustainable development. Various wave energy converter technologies have been proposed to harvest the energy from ocean waves. This thesis is based on the linear generator wave energy converter developed at Uppsala University. READ MORE

    Abstract : On March 13th, 2006, the Division of Electricity at Uppsala University deployed its first wave energy converter, L1, in the ocean southwest of Lysekil. L1 consisted of a buoy at the surface, connected through a line to a linear generator on the seabed. READ MORE

  4. 4. Millimeter-wave Networking : Fundamental Limits, Scalable Algorithms, and Design Insights

    Author : Hossein Shokri-Ghadikolaei; Carlo Fischione; Gabor Fodor; Muriel Madard; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : The current demands for extremely high data rate wireless services and the spectrum scarcity at the sub-6 GHz bands are forcefully motivating the use of the millimeter-wave (mmWave) frequencies. The main characteristics of mmWave communications are severe attenuation, sparse-scattering environment, huge bandwidth, vulnerability to obstacles and antenna misalignment, massive beamforming, and possible noise-limited operation. 5. 5. The growth of waves by wind as a problem in nonequilibrium statistical mechanics

    Author : Anthony Bonfils; John Wettlaufer; Kristian Gustafsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; out-of-equilibrium system; fluctuation spectrum; oscillatory force; classical Casimir effect; non-linear waves; wave turbulence; wind-wave coupling.; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Abstract : In 1948, Casimir predicted a net attractive force between two perfectly conducting parallel plates due to electromagnetic vacuum fluctuations. By analogy, the interaction of two ships on a wavy sea has been named Maritime Casimir effect. This is an example of force generation in non-equilibrium systems. READ MORE
